"jobs went great, roof which was the only time sensitive job was done very quickly and professionally with quality work. Door/floor replacement was also done very well but we were not in a hurry so when the doors took a while to arrive that was the only delay, the quality of work was exceptional, we had replaced one of the doors when we purchased the house 12 years ago and it was not done properly. I was never pressured about payment and the job was done on budget."

"Roland came out the same day I requested a quote. The work was scheduled next business day. Both he and his team were timely, courteous, and professional. He was straightforward about the scope of the work and updated me in advance of any changes. The quality of the final work excellent."

"Jimmy was fantastic with his work and communication. I've had contractors + builders that could go days without communicating. Jimmy always got back in an appropriate amount of time. The work his team was fantastic. They converted our dining room to a home office and remodeled all three of our bathrooms."

"Tim was great and easy to work with. He showed up when he said he would and communicated effectively. He painted out exterior shutters and they look great. He provided a quote prior to and kept to the agreed upon price."

"The entire trim had to be removed and replaced.  While this sounds simple the workers had to install a roof jack type scaffold due to the angle of the roof.   The trim was removed, replaced, sealed and painted.  The workers were very thorough and cleaned up as if they were never there.

"Chester was absolutely professional.  We had a lot going on in our home during this renovation, and Chester was cooperative with all of the other contractors who were there at the time.  His responsiveness is lightning fast, and he is thorough in explaining the job and the cost.  Quality is A+.  We have a large project in mind for the coming year, and we hope to have Chester and his crew back to do another amazing job!

"Not well. Called to make appointment, had to book several months in advance. As  the date grew closer, concerned as contractor never came out to review job or provide estimate on additional services. Overall, lack of communication."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Yes, most services include necessary frame modifications for proper door fitting. Confirm with your provider.

There are both temporary and permanent ways to enclose a carport. If you’re looking to enclose your carport for the winter, a canvas enclosure could do the trick. It won’t be as protective as a permanent structure, but it can offer some protection from elements like snow, rain, and wind. For a permanent enclosure, you can add extra walls, add a new vertical roof, or a lean-to addition on one side of the structure.

If you remove a load-bearing wall to create an entrance to a carport or covered patio, you can expect to pay between $3,200 and $9,500, with an average cost of $6,400. Factors such as the type of addition and if that area needs additional work will add to the price.

Baseboards don’t have to be nailed into studs. However, nailing them into studs adds to their stability. When studs aren’t available, you can secure them with drywall nails directly into the drywall and adhesive. Always aim to nail into studs, especially in high-traffic or impact-prone areas.

When deciding whether to use nails or screws for framing, the specific needs of the project must be taken into account. Nails have long been the go-to option for framing due to their affordability, ease of installation, and ability to withstand shear forces. They are perfect for structural framing projects where fast assembly is essential. In contrast, screws offer exceptional holding power and are particularly useful in situations requiring increased strength and resistance to pull-out forces. For projects that prioritize accuracy and long-lasting quality, screws may be the preferred option, though nails remain a dependable and efficient choice.
