"I am part of an Architectural Review Committee in our community. We have the authority and ability review any Contractors plans and approve or disapprove the Builders' plans. We also get to observe the approved construction project as well as tour the final builds. I am very impressed with Pinnacle Construction's standards of construction, and their ability to work smoothly and easily with all entities involved. Based on our past experience with Pinnacle Construction, Bobby Hounsell, IV and witnessing his personal high standards and attention to detail, I highly recommend them for your next big project."

"Most people would rather go to a dentist than hire and deal with a contractor for work on their homes. Jim Hoctor of Allrestore Contractors is the exception to the rule. He actually made the experience a pleasure. He is easy to do business because; 1) good communications from start to finish on the project; 2) fair and honest pricing; 3) all work performed to the highest quality; 4) calm demeanor when something unexpected goes wrong; 5) speedy resolution of problems. I would recommend Jim and his company to anyone needing roof and window work in the Myrtle Beach area. I would hope that more contractors would adopt these core business principles."

"Very good. Scott does a nice job. He is a professional. The one thing I like the most about Scott is that if he is running late or unable to make it to you the day or time scheduled, he will call you and let you know. Other contractors I have used here will either just show late or not show at all. Thank you Scott.

"I would highly recommend this business.  We had them come and restain the deck and at first just powerwash the house.  They scheduled the work right away.  After doing the pressure washing, there were some areas with paint chips under the soffit.  Mike offered to repaint those for free.  During this, they noticed areas of the soffit that were rotten, so we had them repair those areas of the wood.  They also fixed a few screens that were damaged during the pressure washing for free.
Everything turned out great, and we are very happy we had this work done.  Mike and Crystal are very professional and easy to work with.  I will be having them do some more work on our house in the near future.

"Very Professional explained everything they were doing and all questions were answered on the spot. Had Job Site Forman and Job Site Manager. Everything arrived at one time (supplies, dumpster, equipment and crew). They cleaned the whole yard front and rear. There were no nails or trash anywhere once they were done."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

A cross brace for a fence gate should stretch from the top corner of the gate’s hinge side to the bottom corner of its latch side at a 45-degree angle to the bottom of the gate. This positioning distributes the bulk of the gate’s weight to the base of the post, taking pressure off the top hinge.

The cost to convert a carport into a garage averages about $22,000, ranging from about $15,000 and $55,000. Additional cost factors to consider include size, time of year, and how much of the carport you can reuse. Other cost factors include the kinds and amounts of materials used, such as:

  • Add insulation: $1 per square foot

  • Add drywall: $1–$3 per square foot

  • Add window: $450–$2,000 per window

  • Add outlets: $75–$500

  • Add garage door: $250–$11,200

  • Enclose framing: $5–$13 per square foot

  • Replace roofing: $1,000–$2,000

Yes, ceiling joists are typically load-bearing. However, their primary function is to support the weight of the ceiling and loads applied to it, like lighting fixtures and ceiling fans. They can also help support the roof, especially if they’re part of truss systems. Remember, the load-bearing capacity of ceiling joists depends on the material, size, and space between them.

No rules state how much of a load-bearing wall can be removed. Rather, you need to adequately support any area that is removed. Support should always be added to as much wall area is being removed. Failing to support the area properly will result in structural damage.

Most Cape Cod houses are two stories tall at the peak, although they’re considered one-and-a-half stories tall because the steep roof pitch cuts off a portion of the living space on the second story. Unless you raise the roof on your Cape Cod house to add a dormer, the interior rooms upstairs will lose some usable living space to the sloped ceilings.
