"If I could give Pinnacle Construction & Bobby Hounsell more than 5 STARS I would. We interviewed and received estimates from 6 local companies to do a complete kitchen remodel from top to bottom. Bobby was professional, knowledgeable, attentive, and upfront and honest. After seeing some of Bobby's work, the excellent quality of craftsmanship that goes into his projects, his very reasonable quote and the fact that he showed up when he said he would we decided to sign with Pinnacle Construction to do our kitchen remodel. Bobby laid out a detailed timeline with the start date and approximate finishing date. Bobby was so easy to work with. They started on the date he laid out in the time line and finished within the approximate date. I mean this company has their act together. I was looking for a very specific type of finish on our island in the kitchen. Bobby went the extra mile and met with me at several locations to see if we could find it. After not liking what I was seeing Bobby had Jason ( excellent worker for Pinnacle Construction) make me a custom Island which came out absolutely beautiful! I just love it! We always knew exactly what was being done in our home and when it was happening. Bobby was always stopping by and looking in on the project and checking the quality of work. All of the outside contractors that came in to do plumbing, electrical, etc were all professional and top notch. One more important note* - Bobby was the only contractor to look at our kitchen design of our remodel and make some suggestions. I am so glad he did as we changed a few things which made total sense , as he wanted us to be happy with our kitchen and love it. A bathroom remodel is in the future and you can bet I will be having Bobby Hounsell and Pinnacle Construction doing the work."

"My wife and I hired MA Design and Construction to complete a significant renovation of the kitchen and most of the bathrooms in our 19th century Victorian home. From concept to completion, MA Design and Construction were absolutely incredible. Marc, Raquel, and the entire team cared deeply about our vision, goals, and budget. They found creative ways to implement our design ideas, adjusted to the inevitable challenges of working on an old home with humor, reassurance, and warmth, and worked tirelessly to preserve the natural beauty of our home. For example, we had a gorgeous, turn-of-the-century custom cabinet built into one of the dining room walls that was coming down. In the middle of demolition, Marc and his team delicately removed the cabinet in one piece rather than allow something so beautiful to be destroyed. You simply don't get that kind of attention and consideration from most contractors! As we neared completion of our project, MA Design and Construction were constantly communicating with us regarding finishing details and ensuring that the work met our hopes and expectations. We are SO incredibly grateful to have selected them for this project and have already recruited them for other projects that we have planned. It's more than a "business" for MA Design and Construction; you feel like they're doing the work for their own family. That's the highest compliment I can give to anyone. I cannot recommend them enough!"

"Most people would rather go to a dentist than hire and deal with a contractor for work on their homes. Jim Hoctor of Allrestore Contractors is the exception to the rule. He actually made the experience a pleasure. He is easy to do business because; 1) good communications from start to finish on the project; 2) fair and honest pricing; 3) all work performed to the highest quality; 4) calm demeanor when something unexpected goes wrong; 5) speedy resolution of problems. I would recommend Jim and his company to anyone needing roof and window work in the Myrtle Beach area. I would hope that more contractors would adopt these core business principles."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

While it is possible to build a wooden carport yourself, especially if you are skilled in carpentry, professional construction is recommended. Professionals ensure structural integrity, proper anchoring, correct alignment, and the use of quality materials for a stable and durable result.

If the bowing basement wall is less than 2 inches, steel or carbon fiber straps are the best solution. For bowing that is more than 2 inches, wall anchors are the most effective. A contractor can help you decide the best method of repair for your home's foundation and also address the root cause of the trouble.

It’s sometimes safe to replace a load-bearing wall with a beam, but you need a structural engineer to sign off on the project. You’ll also likely have to upgrade to a steel I-beam or another material that’s stronger than wood to maintain the level of support you need without the wall underneath.

Installing a tongue-and-groove wall requires similar techniques to those associated with installing shiplap. However, because of the precision necessary to make each board fit perfectly and the increased material prices, the cost is higher than that of shiplap installations. Expect to spend between $2 and $6 more per square foot for tongue-and-groove walls versus shiplap ones.

Yes, you can find ceiling joists using simple tools if a stud finder isn't available.

Using a hammer requires patience and a keen ear. Gently tap the ceiling in a grid pattern, listening for sound changes. A hollow sound indicates space between joists, while a solid, dull thud suggests a joist. Mark the location with a pencil and confirm by tapping from different angles.

Alternatively, you can use a nail, but this method will leave small holes. You'll feel increased resistance when the nail hits a joist. Mark the spot and repeat the process every 16 or 24 inches to map the joist locations. This method is considered less reliable than using a stud finder.
