"My house looks beautiful. The product is very nice. Cost was a bit higher but they replaced wood that was rotted with no additional cost. They replaced a storage floor and did a great job. It did take twice as long as quoted...some weather issues, small crew."

"My husband is no longer able to do the maintenance on our house, or advise me. There was rotting trim wood, that needed to be replaced, at the roofline of our house. I contacted Angie on a Sunday nite. The next day owner Roland called me, we met the next day. He was able to fit in the needed repairs 1 day later and take a piece of wood to the paint store to match the color. The result looks perfect!!"

Siding questions, answered by experts

Board and batten siding refers to the look and style of the installation rather than the material itself. You can install board and batten siding whether you choose vinyl, wood, fiber cement, or metal as your material. Among other popular siding styles to consider are clapboard siding, stucco, shake siding, and log cabin siding. Stone, stone veneer, brick, and brick veneer are considered high-end alternatives that can help maximize ROI and curb appeal.

The cost to install or replace brick or stone siding generally ranges from $10 to $50 per square foot. The final price depends on several factors, including the specific material type, local labor rates, and any necessary preparation work, such as removing old siding. For example, different types of stone have varying costs per square foot: natural stone ($4.50–$35), stone veneer ($11–$13), faux stone ($6–$9), and cultured or manufactured stone ($5–$8).

Some homeowners use caulk on the edges of clapboard siding to help seal it. However, this method invites new problems. With so many gaps sealed, clapboard siding is often unable to drain properly and moisture from rain or other sources can build up inside. This can lead to rot and other issues over time. When repairing clapboards, it’s best to avoid caulking the final product. The exception is trim around windows and doors, which should be caulked to avoid moisture problems.

Traditional clapboard siding, particularly with panels made from wood, is not a significant insulator on its own. However, you can keep your home cooler in summer and warmer with "insulated clapboard siding," which is a type of vinyl clapboard siding with a built-in foam insulation. Consult a local siding contractor to determine whether insulated siding is right for your home.

When it comes to fiber cement siding maintenance, it’s not too much work. However, it needs to be painted about every 15 years and may need to be re-caulked to prevent mold. Be sure to also wash your fiber cement siding with a lower-powered garden hose at least twice a year to avoid buildup and fading as well.
