"showed up on time - fixed outlet in 20 minutes - asked if there was anything else he could address.  Helped me understand the circuitry of a ceiling fan I was planning on installing.

"Pablo and his associate were timely, professional and easy to communicate with. They sent photos and videos of completed work, prices were reasonable and I will not only highly recommend them to my friends and family, but they are my go to for any electrical needs in the future! I feel so lucky to have found them!"

"I am comfortable with minor wiring projects (hanging a ceiling fan, installing a new light fixture in an existing spot), but new wiring is not something I'm willing to do.  When I removed my old OTR, I realized that the job was beyond me.  I'd used MI in the past, called them up, and got a team out to the house within a few days.  They were in and out quickly, and did the work well.  I will absolutely use them again.  Thanks!

"We own numerous homes and commercial investments and have dealt with many subcontractors :BNM Painting are the best painters we have ever dealt with. They made repairs to vaulted ceilings that had developed shrinkage cracks over time, and cleaned and repainted everything. Mary has a keen eye for needed repairs and paint methods and Brian is a true craftsman ...very professional . I highly recommend these folks for any painting projects you may have.

"The breaker box is outside. Water got into it and caused it to malfunction. He fixed it and replaced the breaker switch. He told me that whoever installed it did not caulk it correctly. He did not have the caulk with him and did not want me to have to pay another service fee for them to come back out. He had someone else just stop by when they were in the area and do it free of charge."

"I contacted Jim and spoke with him on the phone. We arranged a time and they showed up on time and were very nice and professional. The price they quoted me was fair and they offered to perform the work immediately, but I wasn't ready since I still needed to decide where some of the A/V equipment was going, thus impacting the location of outlets etc. I may still have them come by the house to complete the work once I finalize my decisions. Either way, I will probably contact them in the future for a larger project I have in mind."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Many ceiling fan mounts feature a design that can accommodate slight slopes by using a ball joint mechanism at the end of the downrod. If your ceiling has a steeper slope than your fan allows for, you can install a downrod that will allow your fan to safely hang below the slope.

If the fan doesn’t have a switch, connect the white wire from the ceiling to the white wire from the fan; connect the green wire to the ground wire; connect both black wires; and connect both blue wires. If yours has a switch, the white and green wires are connected the same way. However, connect the ceiling’s red wire to the light’s black wire and the ceiling’s black wire to the fan’s black wire.

The square footage of your room will dictate the correct ceiling fan blade size. For example:

  • Rooms smaller than 75 square feet require a fan that is 29 to 36 inches.

  • Rooms up to 175 square feet require 42- to 48-inch fans.

  • Rooms up to 350 square feet require 52- to 56-inch fans.

  • Expansive spaces over 350 square feet need a fan larger than 60 inches.

Though possible, installing a ceiling fan yourself requires electrical knowledge and confidence working with home wiring. Following the manufacturer's instructions carefully and observing safety precautions are crucial components of a DIY installation.

If you’re removing a ceiling fan without visible screws, start by locating the fan canopy—a round cover placed above the fan blades and motor. There should be a thin ring that can be turned counterclockwise to remove the canopy and reveal the screws. After unscrewing the fan, you can disconnect the wires and remove the entire fan from the mounting hardware. For safety, make sure the fan switch is turned off before you remove the canopy. It may be easier to remove the fan blades first, too.
