"The Tar Heel Basement Systems Team was a true pleasure to work with. From the very first meeting / inspection with Nathan S to the actual installation and receiving the final product. Also, just to note...the installation team with Tar Heel Basement Systems was excellent. They answered all of my questions and provided daily updates on the installation progress. They provided me with pictures and again answered ALL of my questions and was super patient with me. The work quality was top shelf. I am more than satisfied with the quality of work performed! Thank you again to the great installation team that installed my crawl space enclosure, shout out to Stephon, Matt, and Jorge (and Nate)...great job guys!!!! and very much appreciated! Also, thanks to Nathan S for all of his great advice and wisdom in planning this project for me. Yes, Tar Heel Basement Systems did a great job!!! Thank you!!!"

"When my septic pump broke everyone I called was busy, even the team at the Water Specialist, but they responded to my emergency by making time for an inspection and replacement on top of an already busy schedule. They really came through for us!"

"They promised to install a new Amana Heat Pump system that had a Life time warranty on the Compressor, and the Heat Exchanger, which included Lifetime Unit replacement if necessary. They said that we would get a $200.00 rebate from Duke Power which they did.
The installation went great, everything was done in a timely fashion, they clean up afterwards. We were very pleased with the service men, they kept us updated with the progress. They took time to explain how the system works and all it's benefits. I was most impressed with the salesman Tom Ashley he was very honorable and the owner I am very sorry that I do not remember his name, but they kept their word. There was a small problem with a part, but they corrected it immediately! And to me that means everything in this day and age! It is hard to find people who stand behind their word!
Even though the system was very expensive it will be worth it in the long run, and I will do it again, they made it very easy to afford!
I know today Christians are not looked upon with favor, but I was impressed with Tom Ashley before we started going over the different systems he prayed first! To me that means everything: I knew I could trust them!

"It was textbook work. From the original call for quote, to scheduling, to the work being done. They went over and beyond making sure everything was done right and had my time in mind. They showed up when they said, the total was what I was quoted, most definitely a great experience. Very professional and kind. Will definitely hire again for any future needs or projects."

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes, a well-maintained sump pump can increase a home's value and make it more desirable to potential buyers; it does not lower property value. By protecting the basement from flooding and water damage, a sump pump provides peace of mind and can make the space usable for storage or as an extra room. For buyers interested in homes with basements, a working sump pump is a significant feature that adds value by ensuring the space is secure and less likely to flood.

In most cases, standard homeowners insurance policies do not cover damage from a sump pump failure or overflow. Coverage for water damage is often limited to sudden, unexpected events like a burst pipe that was not caused by negligence. To be covered for sump pump issues, you will likely need to purchase a specific rider, endorsement, or additional water backup insurance. If your insurer offers this type of coverage, they may require proof that your sump pump is regularly maintained.

Submersible and pedestal sump pumps are two popular types of sump pumps. Submersible models are covered by water in a sump pit, which helps keep the motor cooler and quieter. Pedestal sump pumps stick out of the sump pit, so the motor stays dry and is easier to access. Submersible sump pumps are the pricier option, but they also have longer life spans.

Sump pumps remove excess water from the lowest point of your home, which prevents flooding. When a sump pit fills with water, a sump pump pushes that water outside of the basin and into an exterior discharge pipe. From there, the water flows away from your home, so it doesn’t damage your foundation.

A sump pump's lifespan is typically 7 to 10 years, though the general range can be anywhere from 5 to 15 years. The specific type of pump is a major factor: pedestal sump pumps last an average of 20 to 25 years, whereas submersible sump pumps last between 5 and 15 years. While pedestal pumps are less expensive to service, they are also louder and more prone to clogging.

Several other factors influence longevity, including the pump's quality, usage frequency, and maintenance schedule. A high-quality pump that is well-maintained in a dry climate may last for two decades, while a lower-quality, poorly maintained pump in an area with a high water table or frequent flooding may fail in six years or less.

Regular maintenance, including annual inspections and tuneups from a professional, can significantly extend the pump's life. It is time to consider a replacement if your sump pump runs constantly, cycles frequently, shows visible rust or corrosion, or trips a circuit breaker. As a preventative measure, many homeowners replace their pumps every eight years. It's also worth noting that a manufacturer's warranty can indicate expected lifespan, and some home insurance policies may not cover water damage from a pump that is past its recommended replacement date.
