You should repaint the interior of your house every 2 to 7 years, depending on which room needs repainting and how it's used.  High-traffic areas like hallways, kitchens, and bathrooms need more frequent repainting—typically every 2 or 3 years. Because gutters are consistently exposed to elements like water and humidity, any paint applied to them will have a shorter life span than other exterior home features, like siding and shutters. In general, painted gutters will need to be touched up or completely repainted every 5 to 10 years, though you may get a couple extra years with regular care and maintenance.

When applying the first coat of touch-up paint, it is best to use a paint roller. A roller allows you to get a thin layer of paint to the area to avoid an unsightly blend with the old coat of paint. However, if you need to touch up the area a second time after the first coat has dried, a small brush will work best to avoid applying too much paint.

If you’re painting shiplap, the best way to get full coverage is actually to use both a paintbrush and a roller. You can start by using a brush to cut in the edges and fill in the gaps and finer grooves of the wood. Then, you can go back over the entire space with a roller to ensure an even, smooth finish. 

You may be able to paint a high ceiling without a ladder if you have an extension pole that reaches high enough. Some extension poles have telescoping handles, allowing you to adjust the pole's length without needing to swap it out. Another option is to use a scaffold to reach high areas.
