"We purchased a foreclosed home in March, 2015.  The water coming out of our taps was brown and rust filled.  After several attempts to correct the system ourselves we had only minimal success.  At this point we called Water Specialists based on a recommendation from some of our neighbors.  With only three weeks remaining before our move-in date we were extremely concerned the the problem might not be resolved on time.  After meeting with Water Specialists they recommended an entirely new system since ours was over 20 years old.
The new system was moved from the crawlspace to make access much easier and much of our old copper plumbing was removed at the same time.  As soon as the new system was installed the water was clean and drinkable.
Water Specialists continues to perform quarterly maintenance and we have had no problems with our water since the system was installed.

"Tim did a great job with the replacement of our water heater. Even though it was the day after Thanksgiving he moved some of his other appointments around to come to our home that afternoon. Tim and his assistant were careful to put on shoe covers in the house and to observe COVID 19 precautions. The job required more complicated plumbing since we have a desuperheater loop from our geothermal heat pump that connects to the water heater; the additional charge for this work was minimal. Tim was here until after 5:00 that evening, with the result that we had hot water over the weekend."

"If I could give more stars I would!! Billy and his team are knowledgeable, fast, kind and affordable. They know what they are doing and truly care about the work that they do. We have an older home and have had quite a few plumbing issues in the past, but thanks to Appius plumbing I don't worry about ever having another plumbing issue again. They were able to replace all of our old pipes under the house, remove and install a new water heater, and fix our outside faucets in less than a day! Appius plumbing is the real deal. I promise you will not regret hiring them!"

"Very friendly on all phone conversations. He didn't hesitate to give me a repair/replacement estimate and stuck to that quote! Also, JT and the team quickly got to the house to install the new water heater, even though it was late afternoon on a Friday."

"The yearly service works out to be $50 a month. We've had two water heaters replaced through them because of a fault in them. They're usually very responsive. I like that I can request the service online. The only thing is, I wish that there was a better avenue for emergency services. If something doesn't work right away usually it takes a couple of days to get someone out and sometimes you can't wait two days without water."

Water Heaters questions, answered by experts

The time it takes to install or replace a water heater depends on the type of heater and the complexity of the job. A professional can typically replace a standard tank-style water heater in one to three hours. However, if the work area is tight, such as a small closet or crawl space, the job could take four to five hours. Replacing an existing tankless unit takes about two to three hours, while upgrading from a tank-style to a tankless water heater is more complex and can take four to six hours. The project will take longer if you are switching fuel sources, such as installing a gas heater which can add about an hour to the timeline, or if the unit needs to be relocated.

Price variations arise from size, type (tankless or tank), efficiency grades, and installation complexity, including labor and materials.

Flushing biannually, checking the anode rod, and temperature settings maximize equipment lifespan while reducing surprise costs.

Every city and state will have its own set of installation codes and laws. Some won’t require you to obtain a permit before replacing your water heater, though we recommend you do, regardless of the local codes. On the other hand, some cities and states might require secondary permits for plumbing and electrical work related to the installation. Check with a local water heater installation company and local building codes to confirm which permits are required and what the specific laws are.

Several signs indicate your water heater may be failing or in need of replacement. Key indicators include:

  • Age: A water heater older than ten years is approaching the end of its typical lifespan.

  • Water Quality: If you notice rusty or discolored water from your hot water faucets, or a foul odor similar to rotten eggs or sulfur, it can signal internal corrosion.

  • Unusual Noises: Banging, rumbling, or popping sounds from the tank often mean sediment has built up, causing the unit to overheat.

  • Leaks: Any water pooling around the base of the tank or visible leaks are clear signs of failure.

  • Performance Issues: A decline in performance, such as water not getting hot enough, taking longer to heat up, low water pressure, or decreased efficiency, suggests the unit is struggling.

  • Visible Damage: Obvious rust and corrosion on the exterior of the tank can indicate a more serious internal problem.

While these signs often point to replacement, some issues may be fixable. It's best to consult a professional plumber to diagnose the problem before investing in a new unit.
