"communication with the staff was pretty lousy. But once work began everything seemed good. My only issue was we were told that an inspector would come out and check work for and remove the building permit of the door, and they would send pictures of the work they did that never happened. We are still having the same problems. Plus the vapor barrier was destroyed and wanted us to pay to replace it. we thought it was new pretty much. Bottom line we never saw the inspector."

Small jobs welcome

"They extended our concrete patio. Fast reply, on site quote, and provided good recommendations on the job to be done. Excellent communication, they were on time, and their job was very professional. Great value and fair pricing. Jason and his team were fantastic."

"These guys are very good. I highly recommend them. They did three tasks, stabilizing a cracked concrete floor in a shed, stabilizing my 30 year old concrete driveway, and stabilizing my 30 year old modular home foundation that was built out of specs. Well done!"

"My home has a chimney that was unsafe to use (cracked masonry liner). I dreaded the time and cost of a tear down and replacement. I contacted "Shamrock Chimney" and scheduled an appointment with their lead technician "Tony". He suggested a less costly and safer alternative (steel liner and a resealing of the outer brickwork. The work was performed over a two-day period. I am fully satisfied with the results. One thing I really apricate is the communication during the project. The "front office" would let me know by either phone or email when the project would start, and then Tony and would give me updates. All and all the whole process went smoothly. Also, this was my first time with "Angi", I hope to use their services again in the future."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Repairing brick and stone is the most economical choice, especially within the historic districts of New Bern. Full replacement requires sourcing perfectly matched salvaged materials to meet strict preservation standards. However, if floodwaters submerged your foundation or soft river soils caused severe structural settlement, basic repairs will fail repeatedly. In those specific scenarios, full replacement combined with proper foundation stabilization becomes the smartest long-term financial decision.

Helpful?

Completing masonry work immediately improves your home’s ability to resist water intrusion during coastal storms. Sealing cracks also reduces indoor humidity, making your living space much more comfortable. Over time, maintaining your foundation prevents severe settlement issues caused by the heavy clay soils found throughout NC. For historic properties, sound brickwork preserves your home's historic value and ensures compliance with local building codes, boosting your overall resale potential.

Helpful?

To protect your home from New Bern’s high humidity and salt air, keep masonry-safe cleaning agents and appropriate sealants on hand. These supplies help manage mold and prevent water infiltration between professional visits. You should also stock mortar patching materials rated for coastal environments. Having these items ready allows you to handle minor masonry work quickly after storms before a licensed professional assesses the structural damage.

Helpful?

Watch for white salt deposits or rapid moss regrowth, as these indicate moisture is still penetrating the brick. In New Bern, stair-step cracking points to ongoing foundation settlement that previous repairs ignored. You should also inspect for failing mortar joints along old flood waterlines. If historic brick starts flaking off, the previous contractor used an incompatible, overly hard mortar that traps moisture and damages the softer antique materials.

Helpful?

Your project faces complications if your home sits in a New Bern flood zone on an elevated foundation, making exterior access difficult. Older unreinforced brick structures and properties with modern additions also experience uneven settling, creating persistent cracks that require specialized attention. Additionally, homes in the historic district face strict material and scaffolding regulations. Always hire a local professional to assess the underlying soil and structural stability first.
