"Mr. Kevin Atkins, owner and operator of Marvel Makers, did an absolute beautiful job!! He is professional and delivers great sense. He communicated with us very well. He was prompt and on time! Bravo 👏 thanks Kevin! In fact he did such an amazing job that we are having him lay flooring in the whole house. If you don’t call him for any home repair or floor installations needs you are missing out. And let’s not forget… he has reasonable prices. He does not price gouge."

Customers say: Quick response

"Spencers Custom Construction is a superb team of hard workers. They pay immaculate attention to every little detail of the job. They have pressure washed my house and deck and then stained the deck and stairs in addition to the hand railings to a side door. They installed metal mesh covers over my wide gutters and repaired a problem. In addition, they purchased and installed a heavy storm door and latch at the front door. When two exterior doors arrive they will install them. They leave the job site neat and tidy daily and do an excellent job on everything. Their quote was very fair and lower than anyone elseâ s and they are proud of the work they do. If you need something done, I highly recommend Spencers Custom Construction as they are very conscientious and knowledgeable. 252 229 1011 [email protected]"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can tile over existing tiles in a bathroom, but it is not always recommended. For this method to be successful, the original tile surface must be clean, flat, and free of damage such as cracks, unevenness, mold, or mildew. While tiling over existing tiles can save time and money, there are potential drawbacks. The new adhesive may not bond properly, and the process adds extra weight to the wall or floor. Additionally, the increased height of the surface could interfere with door clearances. For the best and most durable results, removing the old tiles before installing new ones is generally the better option.

The grout shade you choose comes down to personal taste and preference. A darker grout will give you a more dramatic and noticeable contrast with the tile around it; however, lighter grout helps create a more uniform look when blending the colors together. Additionally, a darker grout combined with a patterned tile could be overwhelming to the eye, while lighter grout makes the pattern stand out as the main focus.

The choice of whether to tile or use an acrylic tub surround is up to you and can be based on a number of factors, including aesthetics, cost, waterproofing, ease of cleaning, and maintenance.

Tile is a beautiful, classic bathtub surround choice; while tile installation cost is higher, it’s customizable and offers visual appeal. Tile is also harder to clean and presents waterproofing problems because of grout lines. Acrylic surrounds can be more affordable, don’t require much maintenance, and are easier to clean. However, they aren’t usually as visually appealing and may need to be replaced if they become damaged.

Popular options include ceramic, porcelain, stone, and glass tiles, chosen based on the area (bathroom, kitchen) and desired aesthetic.

Yes, it’s possible to cut tile without a wet saw; instead, you can use an angle grinder, a glass cutter, a snap cutter, tile nippers, or a rotary tool with a tile-cutting blade. A manual tile cutter or snap cutter works well for the larger tiles that wet saws are typically used for, while smaller projects might just require nippers or a glass cutting wheel. If you’re working with large quantities of tile, however, power tools are best.
