"F&M Services Group did an excellent job replacing my father’s roof. We can’t speak highly enough of Michael and how extremely helpful he was throughout the process. Michael answered all of our questions and helped us navigate the potential canceling of my father’s home owners insurance. My dad and I both agree the installers did an excellent job and we highly recommend F&M Services Group."

"Tim was excellent! Very professional! Hard to find a great contractor in obx. We are re having a house an needed extra help. Tim showed up when he said, did an amazing job! He fixed outdoor shower, installed a few new ceiling fans an overhead lights. He is staining the pool deck, fixed exterior doors, and did some demo. Have had him clean gutters, do some painting, he is a carpenter too. Fixed some deck boards around the pool.. I call him for everything I can't do myself no job to big or small for him. Trustworthy, honest. An dependable. He even fixed the fireplace roof leak an whitewash painted it for us. I highly recommend him and use him often."

"When I decided to move ahead on a much needed roof removal and replacement, it was very hard to get anyone to respond. However, Michael was very quick to answer my call and get a quote. Eventually I was able to get quotes from 3 different contractors and they were all within $200 for each other, which I find amazing given it was a sizeable job. In the end I did not select American, only because they did not carry workers comp at the time. I understand they have since picked up workers comp. I do most home projects on my own but can't do it all on my own. I will certainly contact Michael for anything in the future I decide to hire out."

"They did a great job getting our heat running during a very cold spell, then ordered and installed a new heat pump the next day. Owners are great to work with and not pushy at all concerning selling extras or higher priced unit. Very happy with the whole process, will use them whenever the upstairs unit needs replaced."

Eifs Installers FAQs, answered by experts

Yes, you absolutely need a permit to add a window to your house. Your contractor can likely obtain this permit on your behalf. Ask about this when getting quotes from multiple window contractors.

Yes, egress windows can significantly add value to a home. By making basement and attic areas safer and more livable, they allow you to market these spaces as finished living areas, which increases your property's value. Many homeowners can recover the full installation cost, with some sources citing a return on investment of around 70%. The exact value added depends on your specific home, location, and adherence to local building codes. Beyond financial value, egress windows enhance functionality by adding natural light and comfort. They are also a crucial safety feature, often mandated by building codes to serve as an emergency exit.

An egress window is similar to a regular window. However, this type of window opens fully to allow people to escape the home or rescue personnel to enter the home if an emergency occurs. Egress windows are required in all finished basements before they can be considered a living space.

The average cost to install an egress window is approximately $3,900, with a typical range between $2,500 and $5,300, though costs can be higher. The final price is influenced by several factors, including the window's size, type, material, and glass quality. Other variables include labor costs, location, excavation needs, and whether permits or a structural engineer consultation are required. The price of the window itself often depends on the number of panes:

  • Single-pane: $100–$400

  • Double-pane: $200–$500

  • Triple-pane: $300–$800

Additional features like window wells or covers will also increase the total project cost. It is advisable to obtain multiple quotes from professionals to get a comprehensive understanding of the expenses for your specific project.

To find and hire a reputable contractor for an egress window installation, you should first research local professionals and then vet your top candidates. Start by searching for local contractors who specialize in this type of work, read their customer reviews, and examine their website and portfolio. Once you have a shortlist, contact them to ask key questions: Are you licensed and insured? What is your specific experience installing egress windows? Can you provide references from previous customers? Do you perform the work yourself or use subcontractors? What is the estimated project timeline and your current schedule? How do you handle payment?
