"I hired â A Cut Aboveâ to cut down and remove two trees and they were absolutely awesome. It was a great experience from beginning to finish. They showed up to give an estimate and then do the work on the day and hour they said theyâ d be here (and thereâ s not a lot of that going around lately). I have an established yard that I did not want damaged in the process and they were respectful to exercise due caution and care. Before leaving they cleaned up and the place looked like they had never been there. I had no work to do when they left â only sit back and enjoy the result of their work. The crew was polite, kind, and friendly. The cost was very reasonable and sure bettered others. Again, it was a wonderful experience. I have them on speed dial should I ever need them again, and recommend you all do the same."

"Even though the work isn't completed yet, I am confident in providing elite feedback on Riddick and Sons. The hard, honest work they have accomplished to-date, and Aaron's excellent communications are keystone to this customer's satisfaction. This will be my go-to handyman resource."

Leaf Removal questions, answered by experts

Lead toxicity comes from inhaling lead or consuming it. Before the 1980s, when the government banned lead from consumer use, it could be found in paint, plumbing, pipes, ceramics, and even gasoline. Lead paint is toxic for the same reason lead itself is toxic, which is why lead poisoning from paint presents the same as lead poisoning from water or food sources, with a slight increase in respiratory symptoms vs. digestive symptoms. Lead paint is most dangerous when it’s old and peeling, cracking, or otherwise disturbed. This increases the concentration in the air and, therefore, in breathable air.

You should ask a few questions to ensure that your potential lead removal professional is experienced and qualified to handle lead-paint abatement safely, legally, and properly.

  • What are your qualifications and experience removing lead-based paint?

  • Are you licensed and certified to remove lead-based paint?

  • How do you test for lead paint?

  • What methods do you use for lead-based paint abatement?

  • What do you plan to do with the hazardous material when you remove it from the home?

  • Do you do replacement and painting work or removal only?

Lead removal is crucial in older homes to eliminate risks of lead poisoning, which can severely affect health, particularly in children, by impacting development and cognitive functions.

Unfortunately, lead dust does not look different from any other type of dust. You cannot detect it with the naked eye. To determine if you have lead dust in your home, you will need to hire a local company to take a sample from the paint and test it for you in a lab.

You can paint over lead paint, or “encapsulate” it with a special paint that includes an ingredient called an encapsulant. The EPA approves encapsulation as a lead paint removal method as long as the paint remains undisturbed. Standard types of paint without an “encapsulant” from the big box stores or hardware stores do not meet EPA standards for remediation of lead-based paint.
