"Greg was excellent, where other companies told us we needed to replace our units, he told us that we had 8 to 10 years of life left in our heating unit. He said it was in excellent condition and should not have to worry about it. Our A/C was nearing the end of it life, explained in detail how the A/C worked, the type of unit he recommended. It was so refreshing to hear a repair say that our heating system did not need to replace, so instead of selling us something he saved us lots of money. We plan to us Acosta Heating & A/C in the future, as I found out that their repair people do not work on commission where most our companies do."

When your HVAC technician mentions recharging your home AC unit, they’re referring to the process of topping off the unit with refrigerant, so the levels are properly maintained and pressurized. Deciding whether to replace just the AC coil or the entire system depends on the age of your unit and the overall cost. If your HVAC system is relatively new and still under warranty, or if the replacement cost is significantly lower than a new system, replacing the coil can be a worthwhile investment that restores efficiency and extends the unit's life. However, for older systems (nearing the end of their 10-15 year lifespan) or those with extensive damage, it is often more cost-effective to replace the entire AC unit. Mismatched coils in an older system can lead to inefficiency and future breakdowns, so a full replacement ensures optimal performance and avoids further costly repairs.

A home AC unit provides anywhere from one-half to five tons of cooling and requires approximately two to four pounds of refrigerant per ton of cooling. At approximately five to 10 minutes to fill one pound of refrigerant, a home that requires three tons of cooling will take about six to 12 pounds of refrigerant and approximately 30 minutes to two hours to completely recharge the unit.

The length of an AC cycle depends on the settings in your thermostat and the unit you have. Central AC doesn't constantly run at full blast the way that a window unit does. A cooling cycle in most homes is 15 to 20 minutes. Then, the unit stays off for seven to 10 minutes to circulate the cold air in the house before the cycle repeats. It should repeat two or three times per hour. A short cycle lasts less than 10 minutes and then turns off.
