"Repair for damaged ceiling drywall. Hunter and the rest of his team were prompt and efficient with their work. The job was reasonably priced with a transparent assessment and quote prior to starting. They took great care in protecting the interior of the house and cleaning thoroughly after each day of work. Would absolutely hire again!"

"We needed to have the ceiling drywall in our garage replaced (after almost 50 years of baking in the Carolina sun it had become crumbly and started to pull loose from the drywall nails, and a section of it fell). They arrived right on time to give us a very reasonable and competitive quote, and were able to fit us in the following day. They arrived promptly, and by 5:30 PM the work was all done. Very neat job and we are super happy with the work."

Small jobs welcome

"We hired Keen Precision Drywall to finish our shed that will be used as a s/he shed, complete with electric. The shed is now ready for paint and decor and their work was impressive. They were always on time, communicating any issues that they ran into that were inevitably the fault of the builder. From the very beginning they were transparent with pricing and responsive to any questions we had even prior to being hired for the job. I would not hesitate to hire Kevin again for any other work at our home and we would happily refer them to others."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Water-damaged drywall should almost always be replaced. Not only does it look bad, it’s a breeding ground for toxic mold. Even if you think the area is dry and there’s no active leak, the only way to be sure is to cut out the damaged area and see for yourself.

You should wait at least 24 hours for drywall mud to dry before sanding or applying another coat. However, the exact drying time depends on several factors, including the thickness of the application, room temperature, humidity, and the type of compound used. Thicker layers, or projects in high humidity, may require 48 hours or more. Lightweight compounds tend to dry faster than heavier, all-purpose ones. You'll know the mud is ready when it feels completely dry and firm to the touch and has changed to a consistent light color. Sanding too early can cause smudging or gouges, so patience is essential for a smooth finish.

When sanding drywall mud, you’re going to create a very fine dust that may contain silica. Silica dust contains crystalline silica, which can cause long-term illnesses for people who inhale it in significant quantities. Wear a mask while sanding drywall. Then dampen a drywall sponge to wipe the dust off the drywall, helping to reduce the amount of dust that may become airborne.

Plaster that sags or bulges, shows extensive deep cracks, or is crumbling from water damage or simply time may need replacement. Plaster walls can look a little “worn” for a long time before they need replacing. The only real way to know if it needs a replacement is to hire a professional to assess the condition of the plaster.

Wall anchors are suitable for drywall and plaster walls, which are common in most homes. However, different wall materials may require specialized anchors. For concrete or masonry walls, you'd typically use concrete anchors. When dealing with other wall types, such as brick or tile, specific anchors designed for those materials may be necessary. Always consult with a hardware specialist or check the manufacturer's recommendations to ensure you select the appropriate anchors for your specific wall type.
