"Our guy arrived exactly on time, and he was very careful and professional. He also helped us select the correct shade from three different white paints, and caught a mistake we had made before he proceeded. 1000% would hire again"

"I am so pleased with the work Henry and crew (special thanks to Carlos) did. Replaced some drywall, installed new baseboards, and painted master bath and bedroom. It looks beautiful! Henry was very communicative, arrived when he said they would, offered a fair price, and didn't rush. I will definitely hire them again! Now my kids want their rooms painted too."

"After a washing machine overflowed on our second floor, we were left with water leaking through our first-floor ceiling. Once the water mitigation was complete, we needed professional drywall and painting work. Mike Miranda and the team at Hole in the Wall showed up early to give us a quote, which turned out to be by far the most fair price we received. Mike gave me a clear date and time, and his team arrived early, exhibiting an excellent work ethic and top-tier professionalism. Their craftsmanship is so flawless that you honestly cannot tell where the damage originally was. Beyond the quality of the work, I felt completely comfortable having them in our house—everyone was incredibly friendly and genuinely cared about ensuring the final result met our expectations. This company will leave your home looking even better than its original state. I highly recommend Hole in the Wall for any drywall or painting needs!"

Customers say: True professional

"These guys know what they are doing! We had roof damage that caused a water stain on our living room ceiling and we got insurance money to repaint this ceiling along with the adjoining hallway ceiling. We decided to spend a little extra of our own money and go with a flat ceiling instead of replacing the ugly popcorn texture. We didn't know anything about local painters, so I checked online and decided on Xtreme Painting. I'm glad I did. I talked to Mariela, who does an excellent job of running the office, and she told me Juan would come by and give me a quote, which he did. The next morning, Juan came back with his helper Gerardo and immediately got to work. Both of these guys are friendly, courteous and hard-working. They talked and joked non-stop as they worked, but that didn't slow them down and it certainly didn't take away from the quality of their work. The ceilings in both of these rooms look amazing! Juan's business card shows that he also does drywall, decks and pressure washing. While he was here, he noticed the exterior trim on our windows was deteriorating and mentioned that he also repairs that. I am definitely going to call him when I am ready to start that project. I highly recommend Xtreme Painting."

"Needed fencing installed to keep groundhogs from taking up residence under our deck. Brady came up with a creative and complete solution that made sure the varmints were out and would not return. Would use again."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

It’s highly recommended to use studs for a TV mount. The last thing you want is to be watching your favorite show when the TV falls off the wall. Studs are much stronger than drywall and quite a bit stronger than drywall anchors but, if you can’t find the studs or there simply aren’t any where you need them, you can use drywall anchors. It’s extremely important to make sure the anchors are rated for the load of the TV. We recommend using anchors that are rated far beyond the weight of whatever you’re hanging. Our suggestion is metal drywall toggle anchors.

You can usually tell if you have plaster or drywall by touch (plaster is harder, colder, and smoother than drywall) or by tapping on it (drywall sounds hollow, plaster does not). If you still cannot tell, peek under an outlet cover and check the cut edges. The rough edges show the composition of the wall. You will see either drywall (two paper sheets sandwiching gypsum material) or only plaster material (no paper sheets).

Plaster that sags or bulges, shows extensive deep cracks, or is crumbling from water damage or simply time may need replacement. Plaster walls can look a little “worn” for a long time before they need replacing. The only real way to know if it needs a replacement is to hire a professional to assess the condition of the plaster.

A utility knife is sharp enough to score the drywall and it may work in a pinch for outlet box holes. However, one of the best tools for drywall when you need to make exact cuts for an outlet box quickly is a drywall saw. This handheld tool has a longer blade than a utility knife, so it penetrates the thickness of the drywall easily. The design of its handle and the teeth in its blade make it easier to control while cutting quicker than you can with a utility knife.

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.
