"Complete kitchen remodel. Anyone who walks in for the first time says, "Wow." That's the best compliment a company can get. Just seeing our kitchen has lead to many additional customers for American Wood Reface. Professional, timely, and talented. One neighbor said, "I can't believe they answer the phone and respond so quickly." In today's service market, that's hard to find. We also called them back to install 20 more cabinets throughout the house."

"I would highly recommend Art Wood Designs. They did a fantastic job removing our old cabinets and countertop and then installing the new cabinets. They were very meticulous in everything they did and very professional. I am extremely happy with my new kitchen cabinets!!"

"We needed boards replaced on a deck and a couple of handrails installed. He came the next day to give a quote and started the work immediately. He worked all afternoon and got the job completed. He was courteous and such a hard worker. I felt like the price was very reasonable too. I would definitely hire again for any other project."

"I can't say enough about the excellent work that Carolina Contracting did completely demoing an existing wood deck and constructing a new TimberTech deck. The project was challenging. The deck is sixteen feet off the ground with +20 stairs and extensive lighting. It was done on budget and on time. Scott Dean and his team worked hard every day on the project from early morning to dusk. They are true craftsmen. Communication was exemplary throughout the 3-4 week project."

"We found Bergen's contracting and repair to be reliable, and the work we had done: new back door and frame removed and replaced, new roof, 3 rooms painted with two ceilings painted along with rugs removed and replaced with wood flooring as well as vinyl repair was extremely professionally done. pro"

"Boris was very friendly and professional and did a spectacular job installing crown moulding and trim for our master closet. He listened very well and his communication was top tier. On top of all that, he gave a great price that no one could even come close to, an amazing value! I would recommend Home Improvement Specialists to anyone and everyone I know who need a home project done"

"Mr. Phillips did an amazing job on our library built-ins. They are beautiful, sturdy floor to ceiling built-ins and we couldn t be happier with them. He was great to work with and he took the time to understand exactly what we wanted and he delivered %100. He communicated really well and was very easy-going and personable. We re definitely going to use him for any other wood working projects we have."

"We could not have been more pleased with the way our closets turned out. We were impressed with the entire process, especially our consultant, Deb, who really worked with us for a fully customized, spacious, and functional design, and the installation team, Aaron and DeNecia, who kept the installation mess free and were such a pleasure to have in our home. It’s been a life-changing investment, and we are so glad we finally made the call. We would highly recommend this team to anyone!"

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

Many contractors prefer checks because they’re easy to track and have no associated fees. However, many also accept credit cards (though they might add a fee to cover their processing costs).

While carpenters and woodworkers perform similar tasks, their focus differs. A carpenter is typically responsible for the structural woodwork involved in construction, such as framing, installing sheathing, hanging kitchen cabinets, and installing trusses. In contrast, a woodworker handles more intricate and custom projects, like building custom furniture, installing wainscoting, and creating detailed interior trim and moldings. Based on these definitions, many woodworkers can perform the tasks of a carpenter, but it's always best to discuss your specific project with a professional to ensure they have the necessary skills.

Many people, including professionals in the field, use baluster and spindle interchangeably to describe the vertical components of a railing (or technically, a balustrade). However, there are subtle or distinct differences, depending on who you ask. The most common interpretation is that spindles are thin or delicate versions of balusters.

Yes, ceiling joists are typically load-bearing. However, their primary function is to support the weight of the ceiling and loads applied to it, like lighting fixtures and ceiling fans. They can also help support the roof, especially if they’re part of truss systems. Remember, the load-bearing capacity of ceiling joists depends on the material, size, and space between them.

Homeowners insurance may cover damaged floor joists, depending on your policy. Insurance typically covers issues from storms, fires, or water damage from burst pipes. However, don't expect your insurance company to cover damage from wear and tear, poor maintenance, or termites.
