"Eddie was fantastic.  He quickly and efficiently installed my new garbage disposal and kitchen faucet.  He left the place neat as a pin.  He was helpful and courteous.  Scheduling the service was terrific too.  The scheduler was very helpful.  I am very pleased and will be having Eddie back to install a new toilet.  Excellent Service!!!!

"Outstanding workmanship and consideration of the internal home decor.  The installers arrived on-time and were completed in less than 2 hours.  I was most impressed that the installers were extremely considerate about not causing extraneous damage to floors and walls while bringing in/installing the granite counters and removing the old counters.  There were only a few wall nicks that were unavoidable.  The granite counters were cut and polished beautifully and now greatly enhance the appearance and future marketability of our home.  The quality of the granite counters far exceed the original materials provided by our builder.

"Disposal was replaced before tech checked to see if there could be a problem with wall switch. Problem turned out to be a loose wire so I may not have needed a new disposal after all."

"This purchase was an Angie's List Big Deal. Tony and Sam  (brothers, and co-owners) made this project simple and stress free.
Shortly after purchasing the Big Deal, We were contacted by Imperial  Stone and scheduled an appointment for Tony to come out to the house to take the measurements and answer our questions. We followed up a couple of days later with a visit to their showroom to select a slab of granite and a sink. We gave them our trim preferences, and added a backsplash to the job. All the details were clear and straight forward every step of the way.  No creeping costs, the only add on was the backsplash and that was very reasonable. When they installed the counter yesterday, we were pleased at how meticulously they worked. The finished project is just beautiful. I didn't care to hook up the new sink fixture or garbage disposal that we purchased separately, so they recommended a plumber that they worked with often (fortunately another Angie's List service provider). These guys are A+, very professional, courteous and aim to please. I highly recommend them."

I had been speaking with Jim who was extremely responsive and professional.  I left a voicemail for him letting him know what I needed and he called me back within 15 minutes.  We set a day and time during the initial call for the install.  Saturday morning I received a call that they would be there by 8:00 and John came right at 8:00.  John, was extremely courteous and very professional.  John removed the old dishwasher and cleaned the area.  Once the new dishwasher was installed, John made sure to let it run for a while to make sure there were no leaks.  John removed all the foam and plastic that came with the new dishwasher and left my kitchen in the same shape it was when he got there.   John finished in about 2 hours and was on his way to his next job.  This was such a great experience I am definitely using Gentile Pluming in the near future for other pluming needs that are coming up.  Thank you so much Jim and John for such a great experience.

"I recently purchased an closet system by EasyClosets, I found this system to be very difficult to install and the directions provided with the kit were not well written. I contacted You-Name-It Handyman and Carpentry Services and Mike was very responsive, and willing to adjust his schedule to work on the closet install very quickly.
Mike was able to install the closet efficiently and completely, I would highly recommend him to friends and family

Install Garbage Disposal questions, answered by experts

These appliances do unscrew, but you need to disconnect everything properly when you replace your garbage disposal. Make sure you shut the power off to the area first and check that it’s off with a voltage detector. Disconnect the main drain line and P-trap, and then disconnect the dishwasher drain line if you have one connected. You can then unscrew your garbage disposal using a disposal wrench. Just make sure you disconnect the electrical lines before removing your appliance.

It’s one thing that helps, alongside vinegar and baking soda. Ice acts as an exfoliant, helping to lift off any bits of food stuck on the disposal blades.

Soil is just one of the items you shouldn't put down a garbage disposal. Garbage disposals are only meant for soft, non-fibrous foods. Large amounts of topsoil, dirt, or rocks will damage the blades of your garbage disposal or clog the pipes. If a small amount of dirt goes down the drain as you repot a plant, you shouldn't have to worry, but never dump a whole pot of soil in the sink for fast disposal.

The most common garbage disposal size in the U.S. is 1/2 horsepower. This size is ideal for households with three or fewer people or those that don't produce much food waste. Although 1/2 horsepower can't handle the typical food waste load for a household of four (which is about 250 pounds of food waste annually) as effectively as 3/4 horsepower, it remains the most common size of garbage disposal on the market.

While the drain connection for a garbage disposal is nearly universal and fits standard sink drain holes of 3 1/2 to 4 inches, the size of the disposal unit itself is not. You must have enough space in the cabinet underneath your sink to accommodate the disposal's housing. A larger model may not fit in a compact cabinet or if the existing plumbing is arranged in an unusual way. Before buying a new garbage disposal, measure the available space under your sink. If you are replacing an old unit, it's often easiest to choose a new model of a similar size.
