The Chimney Doctor is a family owned and operated business for over the past 15 years. We specialize in the cleaning and repair of wood burning fireplaces, gas logs, chimney caps, and dryer vents for residential and commercial properties. Over the past 15 years; our honesty, dependability, experience, and “word of mouth” has earned us a profound reputation in providing our customers with the best service offered in this line of work. We take pride in our work and put 110% into every job we are called upon; no matter how big or small the job may be. There is one thing we don’t stand for when it comes to doing business with any of our current or future customers; that one thing is doing “bad business”! To eliminate the possibility of unsatisfied work, we stick to running our business from within the family. We want to make sure our customers are fully satisfied with our work prior to leaving the job. Although our main office is based out of Shallotte, North Carolina; we have recently expanded our services to the residents of South Carolina. We look forward to doing business with you. "Original install was fine. Unfortunately after 4 years the compressor went bad. We had a written 5 year warranty through him since it was an almost new used unit. We were told that the compressor was covered but not the refrigerant which was going to be close to $1,000 dollars. He supposedly had it ordered. Checked back a week or so later, and he said he would look into it. That was the last correspondence. He would not answer or return phone calls. Now we get to pay someone over $3,000 to repair it. Not recommended."

"Absolutely recommend! We had a squirrel getting in our chimney ~2 weeks before Thanksgiving. Although scheduled through the holiday, James made time for a quick look, then found & helped me block the squirrel's access. And, because he'd be returning to sweep the chimney, he didn't even charge for that visit. What a wonderful surprise! Our later chimney sweep was thoroughly & cleanly done w/o soot getting into the house. This is a wonderful, successful family business that I'll definitely use again."

Gas Logs questions, answered by experts

Some cities or states may require you to have an earthquake gas shut-off valve. Your insurance provider may also have requirements for installing this valve. Even if you don’t have to have one by law, it’s wise to have a natural gas plumber install one anyway. These devices can be lifesaving and prevent fires or explosions in the event of a gas leak.

In North America, pipe measurements are listed as the nominal pipe size (NPS). This measurement refers to the outside diameter. As an example, a 1/2-inch copper pipe has an outside diameter of 5/8 of an inch. If a hardware store lists a pipe as having a 2 NPS, it means that all the pipes with this measurement have a 2 ⅜-inch outside diameter, regardless of wall thickness and inside diameter.

The right way to vent a gas water heater is to have a pipe directly upward or slopes upward out of the house. Because hot air naturally rises, this type of venting will efficiently ensure that all gas moves out of the house. Your system may rely on fans or blowers as well.

To ensure a steady propane supply, schedule regular deliveries with your provider, monitor usage, and consider keeping a backup supply for emergencies.

You’ll need to increase your budget. Since you will likely need a new outlet, factor in $120 to $200 for it. If your gas company needs to run a new gas line to your oven, expect a charge between $200 to $2,000.
