"I have had a total of three F reviews. Each time the customer has out and out lied, this includes Mr. [Member Name Removed]. He is trying to sell a home with an almost incalculable amount of deficiencies. It has been my recommendation, as is his realtor, to hire a home inspector before going into contract. He will not take our advice. In fixing multiple leaks in his sunroom, which he told me his ******* son in law enclosed, I clearly let him know more work needed to be done. I have in writing sent with the last invoice for that job, a recommendation that we do no more work until he gets an inspection. Sadly he has a home that although it is for sale for over $1,000,000, has many, many problems. The details around every window are unable to prevent water from getting behind the trim, it needs a new roof, the siding needs a tremendous amount of repair, many windows barely operate although we did replace some parts of them. Every step of the way Mr. [Member Name Removed] made it very clear to take the least expensive way out just so he can sell the house. As far as my invoices, I have every receipt for every piece of material we purchased and he only asked to see one or two, of which I gave him a copy. Additionally, as far as getting paid, Mr. [Member Name Removed] is very hard to get to return a call, email or text. I'm really not sure what prompted him to write this false review, perhaps it is because his son in law wasn't happy with a job we did for him. I clearly offered to come over and see what else we could do for no charge, and he refused. We were attempting to redirect rain off of his roof so it did not spill over his gutter on to his porch. I made it very clear to him that I wasn't sure my idea would work and according to him it did not. His home is also riddled with incompetent workmanship, lots of rotted wood, missing flashing, etc. By the way, I don't smoke! My son was working on his son in laws home and I got a phone call complaining that they were taking a break and having a cigarette. I actually deducted a half hour off of my invoice. And I did not charge for an estimate. The second visit to his daughter's home was to actually measure for materials before ordering them; yes, I charge for my time, not estimates. The last project I did for Mr. [Member Name Removed] was to clean the outdoor carpet on his screened in porch. He requested that we remove the carpet and paint the deck. This would have taken much longer and a lot more expensive, especially not knowing the condition of the wood below. I recommended we just power wash the carpet and it turned out nicely. You're welcome [Member Name Removed]!"
"Thank you, glad everything worked out."
My back garage door was rotted out at the bottom and the door leading into our house was very flimsy. I called Mr. Marcley for an estimate and we agreed on what I thought was a very fair price. He had to re-frame the back door and pour additional concrete under the outside door. He added some additional security measures. He even went by the warehouse to pick our door up as I had no way to transport it to my house. I felt that he did a very professional job and would use him again.
"Thank you [removed member name], I hope you and your family are doing well."
Mark has done several repairs for me in 2 condo units I own.
He is always prompt, professional, gets the job done right the first time and has reasonable rates!
I already knew that the subfloors under the bathrooms were bad with some rotting wood, etc. So I was prepared that there would be possible additional issues that would have to be taken care of that might add to the cost. Allowances were added to cover these in the estimate Mark provided for me.
He began the work early in July, 2014, and was very professional. He was also considerate in that he would call me if he was going to be delayed. I really appreciated that. Mark's son, Dylan, was also very involved in the renovations. He was just as nice and professional as his father. My family stayed in the house while the renovations took place, and they worked around us and were very considerate.
Mark took pictures of underneath the house to show the damage and explained what had to be done to do the repairs, make the house safe, and bring it up to code.
He even met me at one of the local home improvement stores and made great suggestions when I was choosing the tile for the shower floor and the walls in the both bathrooms.
The project was completed on August 4, 2014. Both bathrooms turned out great! Everything is new in both bathrooms: vanities, medicine cabinets, toilets, tub, and of course the new shower in the master bathroom. I also had all fixtures replaced and the walls painted. It looks so bright and beautiful! I was also very happy that my dryer vent was re-routed to the outside.
I was very pleased with the work that Mark and Dylan did and would call them again!
In January 2014, I was given an original estimate of $2017 to replace some floor joists in the crawlspace of my home. This price included replacing some rotted flooring, siding, and door frame, both at the front and back of the home. My instructions to Mark were to make sure that this work would pass an inspection because I was considering selling the home. I also informed him that money was not free flowing, and to please let me know in advance of any hiccups along the way. I did in fact tell him that I was on a budget, and to please try to keep it around the estimated cost that he provided me. When he provided the written estimate, he also provided photos of all the rotted areas that he found while under the house. In early February, I told him that I wanted him to do the work, and he immediately asked for a 10% retainer fee, which I mailed out the very next day.
Work was supposed to begin around the first week of March 2014, after I had my money ready to go... I let Mark know that he could begin. The first date he gave me to start was bumped up a week because he still was working another job. The next week I was told it was getting bumped again because of a family issue. He then began work on Wednesday, March 27.
When I came out to the house Mark and another man were working and had already a large pile of debris from tearing out rotted materials. He asked me if I had use of a truck, and I asked why? He wanted to know if I had a way to get rid of the pile of debris or if I was going to bury it on my property. I thought this was odd, as I have always known that debris clean up is part of a contractors job and goes without saying. Apparently, it does not with him. He offered for $30-40 more he would take care of it for me. I drive a 2 seater, so obviously I was stuck with a huge pile of junk that I couldn't remove-therefore I had no choice than to pay him. Of course it ended up being $40, not $30. Before I left the house, Mark told me they ended up having to replace the entire door and frame, which raised the cost a couple of hundred dollars more. I took this as necessary and didn't scoff. He also asked me to write him a check that day for an additional $800, which I gladly did.
They came and worked on Thursday as well. I received an email from Mark on Saturday,March 29 stating that he hadn't even touched the front part of the house, minus 3 boards of siding, because he said there was 2 days more worth of work involved than he originally thought (the estimate states 4 days worth of work total, and they only worked 2 days). He attached a final invoice of $744.00. He then also informed me that they had not finished tiling the kitchen floor because of some weird fluke that they were struggling with regarding the new sub-flooring (which they installed). I went out to the house on Sunday March 30 to inspect what was done. Not only did they leave my house unlocked, but I noticed the 400 lb roof to my well house was removed, exposing the pump, pipes, bladder tank and electrical outlets to the severe weather we had in the days prior. I texted Mark about this and he said his helper took the roof off and would put it back on the next time he was out there--to this I told him no, the roof needs to be replaced immediately to avoid damage. I never heard back from him. No apologies, nothing. I continued to go out the next couple of days and see that the tile in my kitchen still was not finished. I had previously told Mark that I was mailing a check on Monday April 1, but I was hesitant to pay a final bill when my property was left a mess and the job was not finished. I emailed Mark my concerns and that I wanted him to meet me at the house to SHOW me what he did and that is when he started to get nasty. He refused to meet me at the house. He kept insisting that I TEXT him my credit card information by cell phone, he became belligerent and told me he had already emailed me what work was done. I told him that I needed someone to show me, (after all, aren't walk throughs customary prior to final payment?) and that I do not understand construction terms in an email enough to gain an understanding of what was done. He continued with nasty email after nasty email (I have them all saved because I thought I was going to have to take him to court), refusing to resolve the issue in a professional matter. It was bad enough that I had my fiancee step in (he lived out of town and could not be present for this job). He went under the house, took pictures and was extremely upset. He sent the pictures to several contractors he knows in the RDU area for review. ALL said that it was shoddy work that will NEVER pass inspection. He sent the pictures via email to Mark. Mark actually then sent an ADDITIONAL bill for time and materials for the floor tile that never got finished. We refused to pay the entire amount. We ended up sending him $650 for the final amount which is way more than the quality of work was worth. Total payment to Mark was $1667. The job was never finished. The job quality was that of someone trying to run rough shod over a single woman with a limited budget who wouldn't know the difference between standard or sub-standard job quality. Adding insult to injury, he became demeaning, combative, and dismissive. I still have all of the emails saved so that I could refer to them for this review. I would NEVER recommend him to anyone.
"I am shocked at the lies contained in this review. I will not waste my time going line by line. I will gladly show anyone interested the exact wording of my estimate. I clearly stated that this, the estimate, is an ESTIMATE only and the work will be done on a time and material basis at a previously agreed upon rate. I NEVER give a contract price for rot repair. There is never any way to know how deep the rot goes; it's like cancer on a home. This home had been neglected for many years and we encountered much more rotted wood than we expected where we began to work on the back of the house. Hence the large pile of debris which I never suggested she bury! Since we were working time and material she would save money if she had a way to dispose of the pile. I was and always am very mindful of how much money my customers are going to have to pay so I try not to do too much. We could have ripped out more wood, but she made it very clear she was on a limited budget and in my 39 years experience, the area we worked on was structurally sound. I could also produce my invoice for a 10% retainer and the date, about 2 weeks later, that I received a deposit. She did not send it out the next day. My offer to accept a credit card was only to make it easier for her to pay. The blocking that we put in under the floor that she claims was incorrect was installed to make up for a very strange inconsistency in the subfloor. There were 2 different thicknesses of subflooring; something I have never seen. Her expert fiance didn't know that and assumed, as well as his RDU buddies, that this was intended to attach to the rim joist. That was not the intention. I think this is more than just a grievous review, I think it's more like defamation of character. For those interested, please look at the rest of my reviews and you'll see I have a straight A rating. I trust that this will be worked out with Angie's List staff, again, I can provide all the documentation. Sincerely and regretfully, Constructive Solutions of NC, Inc by Mark D. Marcley"
Since I am living in Texas, Mark managed the whole process wonderfully. He kept me informed on the progress throughout the renovation. When I needed detailed data to help my brothers and me analyze the cost benefits of the upgrades, he provided me that information. Once the work started, he helped me pick out items long distance. He found less expensive items that had the same look and quality as the items I selected, thus keeping me on track with the budget. He advised me on what the current trends are in kitchens and baths because he understood that the goal was to update the house so that it would sell quickly. His ideas lined up with what realtors, other contractors and the home magazines were telling me; however, his ideas showed a healthy dose of practical as well as a wonderful creative flair. He also went way beyond what was required and contracted for: fixing a leaky pipe for the air conditioner, adding a plug for the oven because the old one was wired in directly and other things! When he saw things that were needed outside of the official job, he brought them to my attention and made suggestions about how to handle them because he knew I wasn't there and was not aware of the items. For these additional items, he charged a small amount; while saving me a whole lot of money if the items had not been handled promptly.
I would hire him again in a heartbeat. I am just starting to build a house in Texas. If he was in Texas, he would be my builder without a doubt. I was so fortunate to find him on Angie's List.
contractors and he came across the most knowledgeable and was very professional. He came when he said he would and
provided quotes for any work he performed. Whenever something came up he would call, text, or email to clarify how I wanted to move forward. When I was unsure what I wanted to do or how things might look he was happy to make some suggestions and went so far as to meet at different places to go over what may or may not work. He is flexible and will try to make what you want happen. I was so happy with the work in my kitchen and living room that I currently have him remodeling my den.
The things that he has done are as follows:
-remove/replace drywall. patch/repair drywall and prep for painting.
-Install hardwood floors
-Install cabinets, farm sink , and tile back splash.
-Remove and replace several doors
-Trim work (crown modeling, trim on cabinets)
-electrical(undermount cabinet lights. switchesand sockets.)
-Plumbing (installed sink and new garbage disposal)
-Install Slate around fireplace
-locate and install one of a kind mantle
I am sure that I have missed some things. I have an older home so there were several time that he came across things that he had to be creative to say the least to make it look good and rose to the occasion every time. There we a couple of times that I was happy with the outcome and he felt it could be better and changed it without additional cost and as hard as it is to admit he
was right!!!
Thanks so much for all you have done. I could'nt be happier.
We solicited quotes from others and Mark was the only one that provided a written quote (which was lower than the others). He did exactly what was quoted. Work was well done and he added a few additional touches to improve the overall look (e.g. additional trim and door knobs which was not included in the quote). He arrived exactly when he said he would and it only took approximately 2 days to complete. When finished he cleaned-up the area. Overall, we are very happy with his work and will plan to use him again in the future.
"Thank you very much [Member name Removed], If I got this many straight A's in school I might not be in construction! It was a pleasure serving you and if I can be of any further assistance, please let me know. Say hello to Barry for me. thanks again, Mark"
We highly recommend Mark as YOU go to guy! to get things done.
"Thank you for the great review (Member name removed), but I have to give the credit to my son. In appreciation, Mark"
"Hey (Member name removed), Thank you so much for the review! I went on an Angie's estimate today and she told me about your review. Usually Angie sends me an email when there's a new one. Anyway, thank you and once again, the pleasure was mine to help you. I appreciate the business!"
He looked at the range hood, the cabinets and the roof and gave me a price that didn't include materials, but told me they wouldn't be much. They next morning Mark and his son (sorry but his name seems to escape me at the moment) showed up bright and early to do the work. First they had to take out the above range microwave and then cut holes in the cabinets for the duct work. This was done so professionally that you can't even tell that anything had been done to the cabinets from the outside. There were a lot of little adjustments they were able to make inside of the cabinets with the shelving material that I already had in there so this saved money on materials. I didn't really lose that much cabinet space due to these adjustments. Then they vented the range hood through the roof and sealed the hole. After getting this done they were able to build a box to go around the 8 inch duct work and install crown molding to match the rest of the kitchen. His son cut me a small paint sample from the an area that cannot be seen behind the cabinets and put a paint primer on the new box. All I need to do is just go get the paint. I am sure there is much more to it than what I have described here, but I don't know what it is and this is why I cannot install something like this.
In fact, not many people could install a range hood like this one and do all the other little things that are so very important at the same time. They were able to use carpentry, roofing and many other skills that I would have had to pay several different people for. It would have cost me A LOT more money if anyone else had done this work and it still would not have turned out as well. It was an all day job to install my range hood because it was done right. This was not one of the weak range hoods sold at Lowes or Home Depot, this was a professional level hood that would not have done what I needed it to do if it was not installed by people that know what they are doing. Sorry for the run on sentence. I just needed to make sure I got my point across.
I have had no problems my new range hood and I am very pleased with it and the very professional work these guys did. No longer do I smell breakfast 6 hours later in my closet at the other end of the house and gone are the fumes from frying hot peppers. My house looks and smells cleaner as its no longer being polluted by spicy food. I can only smell things now when I am standing over the stove while cooking. Everything else vents outside through the roof. They have the skills to get many jobs done themselves without having to call in sub contractors thus keeping the price a little lower.
Originally, I was trying to get a heating and air company install my hood, but they didn't show up on two occasions and I am so glad they didn't. They would have been able to get the hood in, but there was no way they were going to have the time, skills or resources to get the carpentry and roofing work done in such a manner. If I was able to attach photos I would.
Bottom line, if you want the job done right Mark Marcley and son with Constructive Solutions are the ones to call. I plan on trying to get them out here soon to do several more projects. I hope this review was helpful to anyone looking to have a job done.
"Hi [member name removed], Thank you so much for the glowing review! I really appreciate that. It just got to my inbox today, but it was worth waiting for."
In every case Mark promptly came out to look at the problem and provide an estimate.
Mark was easy to work with when scheduling the work.
I felt like I could trust Mark to do work at my house without me being there. I felt comfortable having Mark do these jobs when my spouse was home by herself.
Every repair was done correctly the first time. Every repair has held up without further issues.
At least one job - the bathroom drain re-plumb, required a less obvious creative solution because the plumber who did the work when the house was built glued the entire drain system, trap and all. I consider myself a handy guy and didn't know what to do with this problem. No problem for Mark.
I recommend Constructive Solutions whenever anyone asks about work I think Mark and his crew might be able to do.
