"Great experience from start to finish! We have an 8ft. wide bay window that faces due west. Even though it's a double paned window, the amount of heat and glare coming from that window makes our living room unbearably warm and causes our air conditioner to run constantly in order to fight the heat. Did some research on Window Films and found Carolina Solar Control - a 3M certified installer. I made an online request for contact and our Sales Rep, Susan, called within a few hours to set up an appointment. Susan was extremely helpful and knowledgable! She did a great job of explaining the various products, answered all our questions, and made great recommendations. She left us with various samples so we could view the window with film at various times of day and this allowed us to take our time and make the perfect choice. Once our decision was made, we were quickly given a quote for the work and contacted by Bethany to set up an install appointment. She was extremely helpful in answering questions we had about how to prep for installation, etc. and got us all taken care of. Rick, their installer, showed on time and was very personable, professional, and did a fantastic job! We could immediately feel and see the heat and glare reduction from the film. (We chose the Affinity 30 line.) We're thrilled with our purchase and highly recommend Carolina Solar Control!"

"John Ross installed ceramic window tint in all my windows. The house seems cooler. Be aware when they quote $50 per window, it means one pane. If you have double pane windows, that cost $100 per window. John was friendly and did a great job."

Window Tinting questions, answered by experts

The average cost for home window tinting is around $600, with most homeowners paying between $150 and $1,600. Costs can also be calculated per square foot, typically ranging from $2 to $100, or per window at around $75 each. For example, tinting one or two windows might cost between $200 and $350, while a larger project of 13 to 15 windows could range from $4,124 to $4,747.

Several factors influence the total project cost, with the number and size of the windows being the most significant. Other key factors include the type, shade, and quality of the tint film, as well as labor costs. Additional treatments, such as low-emissivity (low-E) coatings, can also increase material costs.

Window tinting offers several benefits, such as making your home more energy-efficient by blocking harsh sunlight, protecting furniture from fading, and increasing privacy. For this reason, many homeowners choose to tint only the windows in specific areas where direct sunlight and privacy are primary concerns.

A common way to modernize arched windows is to install interior window treatments that allow light through the curved portion up to and let you cover the bottom portion for privacy. You can also install plantation shutters to make an arched window look more modern. From the exterior, arched windows can appear outdated if they’re coupled with ornate trim, so toning down the decor can make your window look more natural with a modern design.

Often, window film won’t stick if the glass is too dirty; dust and debris can prevent the adhesive from working. Make sure to clean the glass thoroughly before installing the window film. Low-quality film, which may have a weaker adhesive, might also be the cause of your window film’s inability to stick.

Typically, triple-pane windows made with krypton gas filling are the most energy efficient. A window’s frame, glass, design, and installation all affect its energy efficiency. These windows, in particular, are designed highly effectively in terms of their ability to insulate.

A lace curtain may block some of the biggest insects from entering while still allowing a breeze to get through. If your concern is privacy, then curtains and blinds will provide better privacy than window screens; for UV protection, you can choose specialty windows or UV-blocking film. And if you just want an inexpensive, temporary solution, there are adhesive or magnetic screen panels you can install for an hour, a day, or a season.
