"I have had them out three separate times in 2 months. They finished a remodel of a kitchen by painting the walls ceiling and trim, also stained wooden beams to match floors. Wes was the only contractor that said he would take the time to get samples of stains mixed to match the floors to test before they were actually completed. Now they are finishing up removing the popcorn from the ceilings in 2 other rooms and 2 hallways. Also painted walls in front 2 rooms. Wes and his crew were on time and reliable. I know I am going to get a professional job every time."

Customers say: Quality work

"We had damage from leaks in the roof. After getting the roof fixed AB Drywall came in and patched a couple of holes and remudded the entire ceiling. They apply the mud so that no sanding is needed. The ceiling looked great when they finished. We couldn't have been more pleased with the work."

"Couldn’t have been more pleased with the work that Yardy did for us! He responded immediately to my Angie inquiry, came to my house within 24 hours to provide a estimate and the project was done within the week. I indicated I was working within a timeframe as houseguests were arriving. No problem for Yardy…..he’s prompt, fastidious, pleasant to interact with, and very respectful of your home. He did an excellent job painting some exterior walls. I will certainly call on his services when next needed!!"

"Zach arrived on time and completed 98% of the task I had outlined. He will be returning next week to finish hanging the bar light fixture and another kitchen fixture. I had ordered extra parts to complete this and he will finish up as soon as I receive the parts. Zach went above and beyond performing these tasks for me. He left all work areas in immaculate condition. My only regret is that he can not help finish everything I need to get my house ready for sale."

Popcorn Ceilings questions, answered by experts

Some pros may recommend covering a popcorn ceiling that tests positive for asbestos with beadboard ceiling planks or drywall. The cost to install a beadboard ceiling averages more than $5,000, but you likely will pay more than the average for the installer to deal with the asbestos safely. Installing a beadboard ceiling or new drywall will disturb the asbestos and release some microscopic fibers, so the installer will need to take precautions.

Textured walls are a great way to hide imperfections left over by drywall installation, but many homeowners feel like it’s an outdated look, despite there being so many types of drywall texture. And while the textured walls of today are a far cry from the popcorn ceilings and faux stucco of our grandmother’s homes, if you want a more modern look or you want to install wallpaper, it’s time to smooth out your walls.

Challenges include potential asbestos exposure, uneven finishes, or damage to the underlying ceiling if not done correctly.

If your popcorn ceiling is asbestos-free and you are ready for a new look, painting is an option. As long as there is no flaking or other wear, a new coat of paint might be just the thing to refresh the old ceiling. The best way to paint a popcorn ceiling is to use either a paint sprayer or a thick roller to cover the popcorn texture fully. (Do not forget to dust it off beforehand!)

“Note that if you eventually want to remove the popcorn ceiling, a painted ceiling is a labor-intensive job to remove and will cost more,” says Bob Tschudi. “Once painted, the process of removing the popcorn ceiling requires physical scraping as opposed to a spray-and-scrape approach. It’s very labor-intensive, and thus more costly.”

If your popcorn ceiling contains asbestos, you must hire a professional asbestos removal company to handle the disposal. If your popcorn ceiling does not have asbestos, you can call a popcorn ceiling removal specialist to handle the job. Otherwise, you can hire a drywall or painting professional to handle the job, depending on what you need done.
