"We loved our new windows so much we decided to replace our old sliding glass doors. The Speaks crew did great and cleaned up beautifully. Mike, Joseph, Billy and everyone were very careful and the entire installs went well. Rodney explained the entire process and gave us a fair price. Haley coordinated the scheduling, payments, and paperwork. We highly recommend Speaks Custom Windows & Sunrooms."

"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I’m extremely happy with the work completed. He handled several projects for me including hanging curtain rods and curtains, mounting multiple pieces of artwork, and making sure everything was aligned and evenly spaced. He came prepared, worked quickly without rushing, and left the area clean when he finished. Great communication, fair pricing, and excellent craftsmanship. Highly recommend!"

"We hired Matt to remodel our Master bathroom. From the quote process to completion, Matt was an excellent communicator, very knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with. Matt tore out the old bathroom and ran into some issues with work that had been done incorrectly when the house was built. He could have easily glossed them over and covered them up, but he was outstanding pointing out the problems and the solutions to actually fix it correctly. Everyday Matt or Steve were at the house working. They put in new flooring, studs, shower pan, floor and shower tile, shower niche, crown molding. They removed a large header in the shower, and ceiling popcorn. Painted our old vanity, walls, crown molding, doors and windows. Installed new lighting. Everything was always cleaned up at the end of the day - everyday. The work was meticulous and done very well. We selected some difficult materials to work with and he handled them all. He has excellent plumbers that work with him as well who also had to rework some shoddy original plumbing issues. Everything about the bathroom we love! We would highly recommend Matt for his work ethic, integrity and excellent construction knowledge. He completed the job on time and on budget. It was a fantastic experience and we will work with him again in the future."

"I reported a window sealant problem beneath several windows, and my concern that I also may have a house foundation issue. I was given an inspection appointment. Daniel Messer conducted a thorough inspection, inside and outside, and determined that our foundation is solid, but we have a water leakage problem. This is causing rain water to enter beneath our windows, resulting in a significant window trim gap and separation from the window. Daniel was very polite and helpful, advising that we most likely need a carpenter specialist to alleviate our problem. My wife and I really appreciate his honest evaluation."

"Cliff was able to remodel our front sitting room into a whiskey room. The project included custom bar, shelving, lighting, window treatments as well as focal wall. The shelving was a beautiful combination of stain and torched wood. Cliff was able to adapt to the changing vision as the project was evolving to surpass the original vision. Highly recommend!"

Window Door Contractors questions, answered by experts

The cost of a window repair varies significantly depending on which part is damaged. Here is a breakdown of common repairs and their estimated costs:

  • Broken seal or fogginess between panes: $70–$245

  • Cracked pane: $40–$100

  • Broken glass: $200–$2,000

  • Sash, seal, or track repair: $200–$600

  • Latch or hardware issues: $75–$200

  • Broken window frame: $175–$1,000

  • Window screen replacement: $140–$480

Most windows last for 15 to 30 years, depending on the frame material and the glass quality, but most will require repairs during that time. Windows gradually lose efficiency, so it’s usually best to have a window repair technician inspect and service your windows every five to 10 years. You should also repair your windows if you experience the following:

  • Leaks

  • Drafts

  • Difficulty opening or closing

  • Sudden increases in heating and cooling bills

  • Outdoor noise becomes more audible

  • Signs of physical damage

Window screens can take anywhere between 10 minutes and an hour to replace, depending on the complexity of the replacement and the accessibility of the window. Replacing the screen inside an existing frame normally takes longer than replacing an entire screen, frame and all, if you purchase a prefabricated screen already mounted on the frame.

Professionals clean window screens the same way a homeowner can—by removing the screens and cleaning them with a sponge. A window cleaning pro may come with better equipment, like a high powered wet/dry vacuum or pressure washer to speed up the process and achieve a deeper clean.

The screen on many screen doors is held in place by screen spline. Screen spline is typically a thin vinyl tubing that fits into the groove of the door’s frame and holds the screen in place. To install the spline on a screen door, you’ll need a spline roller—a tool that presses the spline and screen into the door’s narrow groove. Note that old spline can crack and break, so replacing your screens is a good time to replace the spline, too.
