"Received three quotes to replace an exterior kitchen door. Loweâ s at $3k plus cost of door, HomeDepot $7500 plus door, and Cransten $600 plus cost of door. I purchased an off the shelf door for $450 and Cransten did a terrific job installing. Installer Bradley Evans provided excellent communication and a pro install job. I will hire Cransten again."

"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I’m extremely happy with the work completed. He handled several projects for me including hanging curtain rods and curtains, mounting multiple pieces of artwork, and making sure everything was aligned and evenly spaced. He came prepared, worked quickly without rushing, and left the area clean when he finished. Great communication, fair pricing, and excellent craftsmanship. Highly recommend!"

Doors questions, answered by experts

Yes, prehung doors include a door jamb. Prehung doors are sold as a single piece with the door frame already constructed, including the hinges. The only part missing is the trim, which you add after fastening the door. They are more expensive than slab doors but are quicker and easier to install. Prehung doors come in an array of sizes, so there’s likely an option to fit any doorway you need.

On average, sliding glass patio doors can last between 20 and 30 years. Their actual lifespan depends on several factors, including proper installation, frequency of use, and regular maintenance of the sliding components. While this is the typical range, minor problems and the need for occasional repairs or part replacements can still occur. Addressing issues as soon as they arise and performing regular maintenance will help extend the door's life. If the door is older and requires frequent or significant repairs, it may be more cost-effective to replace the entire unit.

Door jammers are designed for easy installation and portability. You can use them at home or while traveling if you’re looking for added security. Slide the foot under the door, then turn the bolt to tighten until it is fitted to the door. Look for options with a padded, adjustable foot to fit tricky door edges and avoid damage.

When choosing a door for the space between your garage and house, steel is your best bet for fire safety. While wood—and sometimes glass—doors are common, they have lower fire-ratings. Fire-rated steel doors can withstand flames for up to three hours—double what wood can manage (90 minutes). Glass, while non-combustible, can crack under extreme heat. Steel may cost more, but it also offers the best protection. Steel isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing choice, but as long as your door meets the International Residential Code (IRC) standards, it’ll do its job in protecting your family and home.

While applying a small amount of olive oil to a door hinge may not cause problems, regularly using olive oil or vegetable oil can cause door hinges to become sticky and gummed up over time. Additionally, residue from food-grade products can actually turn rancid.
