"Over the course of the last year Grady Jones Paint has worked for me on (3) different occasions to repaint our home interior. The scope of work included scraping the popcorn ceilings, flattening them and then repainting them; repainting all of the walls; painting our cabinetry; and, finally, staining the exposed woodwork on our deck. Clee was very responsive and visited the project every time his workers were on site. Tim and Eddie made up the crew who did the work. They were amicable, professional, courteous and did a GREAT job. I plan to use Grady Jones Paint for any future work and recommend them to anyone in need of a paint contractor."

"Cruz Home Painting LLC did an excellent job painting the exterior of our home. Jesús and his team’s attention to detail on the project resulted in a high quality paint job. Jesús communicated with us on all stages of the job and ensured that all parties were on the same page. The quality of work was definitely worth the price."

"I met David Silva over 10 years ago and have not picked up a paint brush since. David and his crew have painted every room in my house and some rooms even twice. One simple word comes to mind when describing David’s work, perfection. Every job was complete to perfection from the plastic that’s laid from the front door to each room, paint and even clean up. I’ve referred Silva Painting (David) to many coworkers/friends and all were more than satisfied with his team’s quality of work. I highly recommend David Silva and his crew for their excellent work."

"Narciso and his team were awesome from start to finish. I reached out to a handful of painters in the area for quotes, and they had the best rate and were the most professional. I was constantly tweaking what we needed prior to the start date, and Narciso was always very responsive and accommodating via email. The painting itself was great, and they came back a week later to do some extra work at my request. We'll have painting needs in the near future and we will use Paz Painting again. Thanks Narciso!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood to help prevent the boards from cracking. However, you must wait for the wood to dry out completely before applying any finish. Freshly treated wood can take weeks or even months to dry; a common recommendation is to wait three to six months. To check if the wood is ready, perform a simple water test: drip some water onto the surface. If the water beads up, the wood is still too wet and needs more time to dry. If the wood absorbs the water, it is dry enough to be painted or stained. You can proceed with building your deck or fence while the wood is still wet, but you will need to wait to apply the paint or stain.

Yes, professionals offer slip-resistant options for added workplace safety.

Deciding whether to stain or paint a pool deck depends on your budget, desired look, and the deck's material. Both options can work. Paint offers a wider variety of color options, provides excellent water resistance, and can last longer. However, it requires a primer and can eventually fade or peel. Stain is often cheaper, easier to apply, and penetrates the wood for a more natural look and longer-lasting finish. It also has great water resistance. The downsides are fewer color options and the need for a sealant. The choice can also depend on the deck material; for example, staining may be a better option for concrete as it bonds well and lasts longer than paint.

Choosing the best color for your home exterior should factor in longevity as well as your personal taste. To keep your house looking newly painted as long as possible, stay away from red paint. Although red homes pop and are quintessential for country-style barns, red paint tends to fade fastest in the sun. Go with earth tones if you want paint that best resists fading.

Applying too much sealer to a deck might seem like extra protection, but it can cause more harm than good. Wood is a porous material with a limited capacity to absorb liquids. When you go overboard with sealer, the excess can't soak in and instead forms a film on the surface. This leftover layer is prone to peeling, cracking, and trapping moisture, ultimately defeating the purpose of sealing in the first place.
