Customers say: Quick response

"Tommy Lee did an amazing job in designing and executing our new addition to our home last year. This included a new kitchen, bathroom and deck. We have an old but beautiful center-hall colonial home in Maplewood, NJ and he was able to keep the aesthetic while giving a very sharp, modern clean new space. My family is so happy with the results, no regrets. Tommy Lee was easy to work with, flexible and always accessible. I highly recommend him for any home project needing an architect, big or small."

"The project was handled very professionally from start to finish. Communication from the company was always timely and clear. Alan’s attention to detail made for a great outcome. In addition to the retaining wall, Alan spruced up the old gravel walkways in front of the new wall. We are thrilled with the result and recommend Alan and Landmark Design Landscaping without reservation."

"The project pricing was inline with the other bids, but they listened to what i was wanting done, explained what they were going to do exactly, did what they said, with the highest quality work. They were on time and completed the work quicker than they originally planned. If anyone needs drainage/run-off problems in their yard addressed I would highly recommend they consider Vert Life. Above what they promised they'd do, they reseeded, fertilized and spread straw over the areas where they had dug. Excellent work quality and great communication. They'd be tough to beat and they offer other lawn and garden services as well. I expect to use them again in the future."

"We didnâ t end up doing the job yet because others expenses came up, , but we plan to circle back around to Centris when we are ready to do the project! The GC came out and spent time helping us with our vision and gave a reasonable estimate. He was very professional!"

Architects questions, answered by experts

The process typically takes 2-6 weeks, depending on the project size and level of customization.

While possible for small projects, professional designers ensure compliance with building codes and structural integrity.

A home elevator is a fantastic way to improve your home’s accessibility. Elevators allow anyone, even those who use wheelchairs or walkers, to safely move between floors within your home.

Dumbwaiters may allow you to move items up and down floors, and stair lifts can move people up and down, but elevators are the best option if you need space for people, their belongings, and/or mobility aids such as wheelchairs.

That said, home elevators cost more than other options, such as stair lifts. Consider your needs and your budget when deciding the best way to make your home more accessible to a person with a disability or a person who is aging in place.

An architect is usually involved in the process of determining the layout and structural features and requirements of the home itself, taking into account the local codes, climate, and materials needed to make the home structurally sound. Architects may communicate more with contractors and subcontractors throughout the building process. In comparison to architects, interior designers typically focus on the aesthetics of a home interior and possibly exterior, helping the homeowner decide on color schemes, textures, and materials to incorporate into the design.

Start by researching local contractors with experience in cottage construction. Ask for references, check licensing and insurance, and review completed projects. Compare multiple bids, making sure each includes the same scope of work. A good contractor will communicate clearly, provide a detailed contract, and ensure all work meets code and safety standards.
