"I'm happy to share my thoughts on John Munn and his company, Coastal Built Construction. I recently had the pleasure of working with John and his team on a deck rebuild project at my house, and I have to say that I'm absolutely thrilled with the results. From the very beginning of the project, John was incredibly professional and attentive to detail. He took the time to listen to my ideas and concerns, and he was always available to answer any questions I had along the way. His team was efficient and kept the job site clean and spotless. He turned a tired old deck into a brand new impressive, modern structure with a set of infinity steps across the entire thing. The end result of the project was amazing. John and his team took great care to ensure that the deck was not only aesthetically pleasing but also structurally sound and safe for my family to use. Throughout the entire process, John was an absolute pleasure to work with. His professionalism and expertise were evident in every aspect of the project, and his dedication to his craft was truly impressive. I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to work with John and his team, and I would not hesitate to recommend Coastal Built Construction to anyone looking for high-quality construction work. From deck building to full renovations and construction, if you're looking for a true professional that delivers exceptional results, look no further than Coastal Built Construction and John Munn!"

"Nick competed with the various shower remodelers in the area. He installed a tile shower, tile floor and painted two rooms for less that the cost the others quoted for the shower only, and the others did not use tile but the panels. The tile work was beautiful and we were very pleased with the work. I wanted some special plumbing, so I purchased several items and Nick and I settled the final cost very equitably and Nick was very generous in the allowances for the materials I provided. The final check and clean up was done well and we were very pleased with the job and finances. i would recommend Creative Concepts highly"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.

New builds, remodels, and additions often necessitate professional framing expertise.

Baseboards don’t have to be nailed into studs. However, nailing them into studs adds to their stability. When studs aren’t available, you can secure them with drywall nails directly into the drywall and adhesive. Always aim to nail into studs, especially in high-traffic or impact-prone areas.

Yes, you will need a jack for a rim joist replacement. To prevent sagging and facilitate the removal of load-bearing wood, you’ll need to relieve the pressure from this joint before beginning work.

Due to hydraulics and other specialized equipment, a sill plate and rim joist replacement are not typically a DIY project. Hiring a professional structural engineer and experienced contractors is the best approach to replacing rotted sill plates and rim joists.

Converting a carport into a garage can vary in difficulty depending on its configuration, the condition of the foundation or slab, and its location relative to the house. The process has a lot in common with a home addition, but you can often skip non-essential finishes like fine flooring, trim work, or even drywall and HVAC. The conversion requires experience with drywall, insulation, and other building materials to ensure it’s done safely and correctly. While it might be possible for a DIYer with the proper tools and skills to do the work, it is a complicated and potentially dangerous job. If you’re new to basic construction, it's best to leave this project to the professionals.
