"We were new to the Wilmington area and at a loss for who to use as a contractor for our master bath and kitchen remodel. After meeting with several contractors, I selected Richmond Homes based on the attention to detail on the proposal, honest feedback given during those first meetings, the realistic timeline to completion and an overall sense that quality work would be done within my budget and within the timeline we established. Chad and Richmond Homes DID NOT DISSAPPOINT! They were professional and knowledgeable. They worked hard, were always on time and did impeccable work. I would recommend them for any job you have no matter how big or how small. I would not hesitate to hire them again. Out of all the contractors we have hired over the years they are absolutely second to none!"

"The work performed by Shaine unlimited turned out great. Turn around from quote to install happened in days and not weeks like other contractors. Job site was kept clean and workers went out of their way to address minor items which were not a part of the original job which was a pleasant surprise. We would definitely utilize them again for future projects."

Home Building questions, answered by experts

An A-frame home can be cheaper to build than a traditional house, but that is not always a given. Prices can be fairly similar in some cases, depending on the location, design, and necessary site preparation. Costs for an A-frame typically run between $100 to $200 per square foot, which is comparable to the cost of a traditional home. The cost of an A-frame can come in under those numbers if you opt for a prefabricated kit.

On average, the cost of a home builder is about $150 per square foot, but that price can range from around $100 to $400 per square foot or more. That puts the typical price range of a standard, 2,000-square-foot house between $200,000 and $800,000. Some factors that affect the price of hiring a home builder include the following:

  • Location of your home and the living cost in the area

  • Type of foundation and framing you choose

  • Quality of the building materials

  • Footprint and layout of the house

  • Number of stories

  • Builder’s experience

No, a structural engineer is not the same as a builder. A structural engineer is an expert in all things related to the structural integrity of a building. The structural engineer is responsible for calculating the correct materials in terms of load-bearing capacity and overall structural safety. Structural engineers do not perform the actual building of the house or other structures. Rather, the builder executes the plans and designs specified by the structural engineer.

In most cases, you should get an architect before you hire a builder. An architect will be the one to draw up formal plans for your project, including guidelines and even material lists for your builder to follow during construction. Many architects can even help you find builders, choose one for your project, and negotiate prices. Some are also willing to act as project managers throughout the process, working closely with a builder from start to finish.

Builder-grade is one of two types of stock cabinets, whereas semi-custom designs allow homeowners some control over the color, finish, or hardware on their cabinets. Stock cabinets are sold in construction-grade and builder-grade designs. Construction-grade cabinets are usually made from inexpensive medium-density fiberboard, which is prone to moisture damage, whereas builder-grade models are a step up with higher-quality materials. Construction-grade designs are the most common type of cabinets in America.
