"The service turned out fine. There were extra fees for the tile we picked out. The fee was reasonable for what we needed. I was never home while they were doing the service but my wife was home. She seemed to like the technicians who came out. Scheduling was a little tough and it took them a little longer to get out than I had hoped."

"We had an excellent experience getting a new roof with JTC about six years ago, and to be fair I meant to jump on and write a very positive review then. However, we've since had some serious water damage along one section of eaves / soffit, to the point where we've now had water run down through our wall/flooring and into our HVAC ducts. I've emailed twice and called but haven't gotten any response at all. At this point, I'll try someone else, but I did have a very positive initial impression and would have thought that JTC would have at least come out to take a look at the problem for me."

"The contractor took time to come to my home and spend ~30 min to look at the job, but never responded with an estimate.  Also never responded after multiple attempts to contact them about when an estimate would be available, well over a month after the initial visit.  If you are too busy to provide services, don't waste my time coming out in the first place, please.

-UPDATE: The company contacted us and apologized.  The individual that came out apparently does not work there anymore.  I would be OK to give them a second chance, as they seem to have good reviews.

"Preston of G-1 Plumbing performed the services and addressed the toilet & drain problem. He was unable to stop leak(made it worse) & submitted his recs to Choice Home for review. I was unable to understand Choice Home's response regarding the faucet leak. Their review stated faucet needed to be replaced BUT it was under "builder's warranty." I built this home in 2005. There is no "builder's warranty" now. I cancelled the proposed work order & paid out-of-pocket. A Friend, who was familiar with my builder and knows faucet components, came to my home, adjusted/cleaned the faucet cartridge and stopped the leak. The CHW tech, Preston, is conscientiuos, however, IMHO lacked the knowledge & experience to stop my leak. Home Warranty Companies, at least in my area, hire owner/operators who need the work to build their business and are NOT the most experienced/knowledgeable & are willing to work for less money. In my experience, Home Warranty Companies want the CHEAPEST resolution, not the BEST. I would recommend G-1 Plumbing for most plumbing issues."

"Charlie the owner came to our home to discuss giving us an estimate for building a garage. He is a good listener. We walked the property and he was very knowlegable about what could and could not be done. He sat down with us in the house and gave a most excellent explanation of the process that goes into the planning and execution of such a project. He then gave us a date when he would get a written estimate to us with further detail. The estimate arrived as promised. It was clear and precise. Our available resources had to be devoted to a non-construction project and thus we were unable to continue further with the construction project. However, our experience with Charlie was a most positive one and we would call on him in the future. We highly recommend him.

Home Building FAQs, answered by experts

A major mistake during home building projects in Brunswick is ignoring flood zone designations, which dictate your foundation type and elevation. Homeowners also overlook restrictive soil conditions, making private septic system approvals difficult. Always verify wetland boundaries early, as these protected areas severely limit your buildable footprint. Finally, account for strict wind zone requirements in NC, which demand specific construction standards for windows, doors, and roof attachments to ensure storm safety.

Helpful?

When planning home building in Brunswick, choose materials designed for high winds and salt air. Fiber cement siding resists moisture and insects far better than wood. Install impact-resistant windows and metal roofing to meet strict wind uplift ratings. For structural support, use concrete pilings or pressure-treated lumber rated for ground contact. Finish your project with closed-cell spray foam insulation to create a strong moisture barrier against the humid NC climate.

Helpful?

The most critical data for home building in Brunswick is your flood zone designation, which determines your foundation design and minimum floor elevation. Secure a formal wetland delineation to establish your actual buildable footprint. Obtain a topographic survey to understand existing drainage patterns across the flat coastal terrain. Additionally, review local zoning classifications and wind exposure categories to ensure your NC property meets all structural design and setback requirements.

Helpful?

For home building projects in Brunswick, prioritize coastal and storm-resilient architecture. Elevated foundations and screened outdoor living spaces fit the regional character perfectly. Because of the hot climate, open floor plans with cross-ventilation reduce cooling demands. You should also incorporate low-maintenance exterior materials to withstand salt air and tropical storms. Finally, add enhanced insulation and dehumidification systems to manage the persistent moisture challenges found in this part of NC.

Helpful?

When organizing home building projects in Brunswick, account for the active Atlantic hurricane season, which heavily impacts construction schedules and insurance requirements. Verify if your property falls under coastal management regulations, as these restrict where and what you build near the water. Check local utility infrastructure, since natural gas is limited and many NC properties require private wells. Address poor drainage and soil settlement by securing a professional grading plan.
