"I had been having trouble getting a landscaper to return calls and/or follow-up with a quote let alone show up to provide service. I got Beams name from the Angies List booklet and went to their website for information. I filled out their contact form and within minutes they called back. They showed up the next day to review the work needed and we hired them on the spot. They came the following week with a full crew and got the job done in a few hours. We have a mix of different bushes, trees and hedges and all were trimmed correctly. They removed two small bushes that we no longer wanted and they also hauled away some bags of yard waste that I had in the yard even though I didn't ask them to do that. The 18 yards of mulch was spread evenly and correctly. All of the work was done to my complete satisfaction. I will use their services again in the fall."

"Nathan Nate was fantastic! He did a beautiful and thorough job on the task I hired him for. I then asked if he could do a few handyman repairs for me, like getting a bi-fold closet door back on its track and getting my doorbell to work. He easily completed these tasks. He even found a few things that needed repair that I didnâ t see. All of this was a tremendous help to me as I prepared to sell my home. With his help, my home sold 4 hours after it was listed!"

"Extremely friendly and empathetic to my 82 year old Father's house issues from Hurricane Helene. My Dad was one of the very luckiest people to be impacted (damage, yes, but not displaced and obviously did not lose everything like so many others in the area). David was super fast to respond, he and his team were there within 24 hours. They did an amazing job at an extremely fair price, and started/finished the job quickly which was the trifecta of great service. I highly recommend this company to anyone in the area who needs any type of exterior work done."

"Paul Greiner. Very knowledgeable, resourceful, smart, and does what he promises for a fair price. Relentless work ethic with accomplished crew. Contracts for projects up to $30k. Took down a 60-year-old, dangerously unsteady barn/garage, along with a carport, in a day and a half. Has the creativity and spirit of a true handyman; side specialties include tree-cutting. Has commercial experience."

Snow Removal FAQs, answered by experts

Yes, and they do it exceptionally well. Heated roof cables have two purposes: melting snow and preventing ice buildup. Ice damming happens when ice forms on the roof (usually where the roof meets the gutter) and melts stubbornly slowly, causing moisture to enter the roof itself and, therefore, the home.

Leaving a significant amount of snow on your roof can be risky. Most roofs are designed to handle about 20 pounds per square foot of snow, but exceeding this limit can lead to a roof collapse. A collapse can cause severe damage to your home and belongings and poses a physical danger to anyone inside. Furthermore, heavy snow accumulation increases the risk of ice dams, which can cause leaks and water damage to your roof, attic, and interior walls.

If a big freeze catches you by surprise and you don’t have any deicer to hand, you can reduce the chance of taking a tumble by laying gritty, anti-slip materials. Some natural, readily-available options that don’t melt ice but offer traction underfoot include sand, wood shavings, kitty litter, and fireplace ash.

Heavy amounts of snow could be a problem. In many climates, lots of snow on your rooftop can lead to freeze-thaw cycle that create ice dams, which can damage rooftops. But if you’re using shingle clips, this snow poses an additional problem: As it melts and freezes, it can easily dislodge clips you’ve placed on your roof.

You can clean snow off your roof after a fresh snowfall while it’s still lightweight, but brushing off snow can also dislodge your clips. If you get a lot of snow, then roof clips become less viable.

The best snow removal tools include a snowblower or a plastic shovel since they're less likely to damage your driveway's surface. Metal shovels can crack asphalt and concrete. It's also a good idea to install driveway markers since they can make it much easier for you to identify where you should shovel without damaging the surrounding yard.
