Yes, you can pour concrete over an existing concrete patio to resurface it. This is a common repair method called resurfacing. For the best results, the old concrete should be clean and free from debris, and the new slab should be at least three to four inches thick and contain reinforcements, like fiberglass fibers or wire mesh, to avoid cracking.

With proper maintenance, exterior concrete steps can last 25 to 50 years or more. Paver patios are often considered the most durable option. Expensive options include pavers of natural stone like granite, and more affordable choices include concrete and brick. All these materials are weather-resistant and are easy to replace individually if damaged. When installed over a well-compacted base and maintained correctly, paver patios can last 50 years or more, making them a long-lasting outdoor choice.

If it’s time to remove your deck, there are several advantages to replacing it with a patio. For example, you’ll pay much less to build a patio than a new deck, especially if the framework is compromised. A patio also needs less maintenance and will last longer. However, replacing your patio with a deck may not be an option if your terrain is on a slope.
