"Carolina Creations Landscaping did an excellent job on time, aesthetically and within the provided quotation. The team addressed the unique challenges of our heavily wooded backyard … with decades of leaf drop and overgrown foliage. Their efforts clean up the backyard and achieved the path aesthetic I was looking for. I highly recommend Carolina Creations Landscaping."

"Bret Yates came out within a day to look at the job and provide a quote. He scheduled a date and time and actually started 1 day earlier due to weather and completed the job the same day. He and his employees were very respectful and worked hard to complete the project. I would highly recommend this company for concrete and landscaping."

"I give Benito and his company my highest praise and recommendation. I have never worked with any contractor who compares with him. He was honest, transparent, reliable, and respectful in every way. He communicated regularly throughout the project - every step of the process. His work was excellent and very reasonably priced. He was neat and respectful of our property. I definitely recommend him!"

"When he came to give the estimate he appeared more knowledgeable than others had, and he instilled confidence in us. We mentioned a few other things needing to be done and he had no problem with any of them, said they were not lengthy jobs, described how he would do them ( with his own machinery) and then gave a very reasonable price. Within a week he called to fit the job in before the rains, did a great job grading, seeding, pulling out a huge bush (which took a few minutes with his machinery), stuck to his pricing and left an hour before the storm hit. Very nice, knowledgeable, out-front guy I’d recommend to….everyone!"

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

Costs for lakefront landscaping are influenced by project size, choice of plants and materials, labor, and any additional features or structures desired. Projects can range from a few thousand dollars to extensive transformations costing much more.

The best place to plant a rose bush is where it will be happiest. Growing roses is difficult if the location varies much from what the plants like. Choose a location that gets at least six hours of direct sunlight during the growing season but not much more than that in hot-climate locations. If such a spot doesn't exist in your yard, consider planting your rose in a movable container to take advantage of portability.

In most cases, wait three to five days to repot or relocate a plant from a greenhouse or nursery. That way, your plant has time to recover from any shock during the move and adapt to the conditions in and around your home. Some hearty plants may not need as long, and delicate plants might need several weeks. You should ask the professional at your nursery for a recommended timeline. Consider asking about an initial watering schedule to help stimulate root growth and promote a healthy plant.

The landscaping elements that add the most value are often the basics. A well-maintained, attractive lawn can have a return on investment (ROI) of up to 217%. Routine lawn maintenance, such as edging and mulching, can provide an ROI of over 100%. Other high-value projects include upgrading your front walkway, which can offer a 100% ROI, and planting trees. Projects like adding decks, patios, outdoor lighting, irrigation systems, fire pits, and outdoor kitchens also add value and enjoyment, though their direct financial ROI may be less than 100% in some cases.

It is possible to DIY complete hardscaping projects, but in most cases, hiring a professional is best to get the job done correctly. Hardscaping—including installing patios, decks, retaining walls, walkways, and water features—is challenging and time-consuming, so the money you spend on a professional is typically worth it. Not only will the quality be better, but you could avoid problems that come along with a lack of hardscaping experience, like drainage issues that can lead to costly foundation damage and leaks in your home.
