"Overall very glad I choose Tarheel. The office staff and their communication is in need of better service they do not follow up and can be lacking in setting times. However with this type of business the installers and supervision is where you need excellence and that they have. Our supervisor for the project was Grace and her crew, Preston and Alvarro could not have been better. Actually due to Grace I was able to get a change order for additional work the original salesman didnt communicate could be done. Once we got going she and her crew were wonderful. The crew all showed attention to detail they were POLITE, and very hard working. The three of them worked none stop to finish in one day what others might have drug out! I would use Tarheel again and ask for Grace, Alvarro and Preston! Maybe even Grace up front on the sales side...she should do both!!"

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

Never pour used motor oil down the drain. Doing so can have serious environmental consequences, including contaminating groundwater, endangering animals, and killing vegetation. It can also clog your pipes, causing backups in your plumbing or the wastewater treatment plant. In most places, pouring motor oil down the drain is illegal, whether you do it in your home or a storm drain.

The average cost to hire a plumber is typically between $45 and $200 per hour, with a common average rate around $125 per hour. This cost can vary based on your location, the plumber's experience, and the complexity of the job. Rates are often broken down by experience level: an apprentice may charge $45 to $90 an hour, a journeyman $60 to $110 an hour, and a master plumber $80 to $200 an hour. While hourly rates are standard, some plumbers may charge a flat fee for routine projects or offer project-based pricing. It's also common for plumbers to charge a minimum service or trip fee. For reference, some typical flat-rate costs for common jobs include: drain unclogging ($220), leaky faucet repair ($270), burst pipe repair ($400), toilet repair ($300), and water heater repair ($600). Note that these rates are for standard service hours; emergency, holiday, and after-hours calls will cost significantly more.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), a leaky faucet that’s dripping at a rate of one drip per second can waste more than 3,000 gallons of water per year. This is one reason why it’s important to fix a leaky faucet sooner rather than later.

The main causes for a leaky toilet flapper include wear and tear or a broken or incorrectly installed toilet flapper chain. If your toilet flapper is torn or deteriorated, it can’t provide a proper seal to keep water from running. Meanwhile, a chain that has come loose, was moved, or just wasn’t installed right can prevent your flapper from fully closing.

You can use a stud finder or wall scanner to detect plumbing behind a wall. A stud finder can help detect metal plumbing pipes. Or, you can use a wall scanner, a special tool that many pros use to detect pipes when water is running. Make sure a faucet is on nearby to get the water flowing before you fire up the wall scanner.
