My name is Matt Stuck and I am a licensed general contractor. I have worked alongside many highly skilled contractors over the years and just recently started my own business, Timberline Construction. and I am looking to find work around Bozeman/Livingston and the surrounding areas to keep close to home. I specialize in both exterior and interior carpentry, and finish carpentry with a focus on kitchen and bath remodels, including the framing, flooring, plumbing, electrical, tile and both interior and exterior finish work. I also do fences, decks, and concrete, as well as minor dirt work, leveling, and heavy equipment operation including backhoes, skids steers and excavators. I am more than happy to meet in person or over the phone if you or someone you know is looking for a local contractor. Although you may not be ready to start a project right now, keep my information in case the time arises, or you'd like an estimate on a project. Feel free to give me a call, text or email at any time, and I look forward to hearing from you or somebody you know who's looking to get some work done! Thank you for supporting local, family-owned businesses, and I can provide additional references upon request. Respectfully, Matt Stuck Timberline Construction Livingston, MT

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

If the outside temperature drops below 20 degrees Fahrenheit, it will take around six hours for your pipes to freeze—and they might even burst. That’s why keeping your mobile home’s temperature around 50 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit is necessary, even if you’re leaving it vacant for the winter. In addition, having ample skirting around the mobile home's underbelly will help keep pipes insulated during the winter.

Excluding carpet, strand-woven bamboo provides excellent underfoot heat. Laminate flooring is also good for insulation and preventing cold feet in the winter. Bamboo tends to work better in climates that have more consistent temperatures, while laminate does a better job at insulating floors in homes that experience more extreme temperature changes, such as the deciduous climates of the northeastern U.S.

The thickness of floor insulation will depend on the R-value you plan to achieve. R-value varies on the type of material as well as its thickness and density. Insulation materials with low R-values can be layered to match the value of denser materials. As long as your floor insulation is packed tightly, seals the area from drafts, and doesn’t prevent ventilation, it can be as thick (or thin) as you need.

Spray foam insulation can last up to 80 to 100 years, making your investment worthwhile over the long run. Closed-cell spray foam tends to have the highest durability. Open-cell foam is subject to moisture, which can lead to deterioration. Remember that some spray foams will damage plastic piping, so consult a pro if you have PVC or CPVC pipes.

The average cost to install insulation is around $1,800, but you could pay anywhere between $500 and $4,500, depending on various factors. Some of the things that have a significant influence on your pricing include the following:

  • Size of the area

  • Type and R-value of the insulation

  • Whether your space is finished or unfinished

  • Accessibility of the area

  • Your geographical location

  • Amount of site preparation, especially for blown-in insulation

  • Whether or not you need old insulation removed
