"First, let me say I am an engineer in capital projects so I work with contractors in the industrial world day in, day out. I am demanding, I know it and that is not going to change. That said, we worked through this system, worked around my travel schedule, got it in, fixed issues that were underground that we did not know about (liked unmarked drain tile and a neighbors sprinkler head that was a little too close to the property line. Definitely very satisfied."

We ask for 65% up-front for materials and set up fee for masonry projects, with the remainder balance due when project is completed to the customer's satisfaction. The best material to put between pavers is polymeric sand. This sand contains silica and quartz, making it more durable than coarse or regular sand. It hardens after installation, so your pavers stay in place. Best of all, polymeric sand prevents weed growth in the gaps between pavers. You’ll have less maintenance to deal with once spring rolls around.

If you wish to break up a cracked or broken paver for removal, you can use a hammer or mallet and a chisel to fragment the paver. As you’re working, be careful not to disturb surrounding pavers; the key is to work slowly and steadily and remove the broken pieces gently. You should also wear a mask and goggles to ensure that no dust gets into your eyes, nose, or mouth as you work.

Permeable pavers typically last between 20 and 40 years, depending on the material, installation quality, and how well they’re maintained. Interlocking concrete pavers and stone systems tend to last the longest, especially when built on a properly compacted base. Regular cleaning to prevent joint clogging can significantly extend their lifespan.

Pea gravel can be used as a base for a paver patio, but it’s not the preferred choice. Because it is small and round, pea gravel moves much more easily than other base options, like crushed stone, so it won’t keep your pavers in place properly. 

If you do opt for pea gravel, compact it well and use an additional binding agent (like stone dust) to keep everything from shifting.
