I. Communication - There wasn't any, unless you count the calls explaining the many delays and the later calls (12 hours after they moved the trash trailer) when they wanted the final payment (even though the job was incomplete). Even the workers who did the construction did not communicate with me. I thought it was because I cannot speak Spanish, but my husband thought one of them spoke English.
II. Supervision - There wasn't any. The team of workers seemed to be on their own. In fact, they finished the entire room before the electrical work was done. When the electricians arrived, they had no access to the outlet locations. Therefore, the exterior panels that cover the area beneath the floor had to be disassembled (the insulation fell out). After the electrical work was done, the entire lower portion had to be reassembled. (The electricians were not surprised. They said it happened often.) The workers also finished the room a second time, but the existing sliding door which was supposed to be removed was still in place. So there was more disassembling and reassembling. There was no one checking on the job's progress, quality of work, communicating with us or Home Pro.
III. Time Frame - (I was told the job would take two to six weeks.)
April 28, signed contract for work and wrote BIG check for product
July 7, product and work crew arrived at site
August 5, job finished
IV. Shoddy finish work - After the old sliding door was removed, the crew installed new trim in the hole it created. There were huge drips, gaps between the trim and the existing sheet rock, visible knot holes in the new wood, blobs of caulking squishing out of the vertical trim, etc. It looked like a kindergartener did the work. Only when I complained was there a mention of improving it. As a result of the botched electrical work, one of the flat exterior panels was damaged and had to be replaced. Although I was told it would take 2 - 3 weeks to receive the new panel, it miraculously appeared the following day when I mentioned that the final payment would not be made until the job was truly complete. Needless to say, the panel was quickly installed although I worry about how this may have compromised the structure and insulation because once again the heavy-handed caulking is very visible. It looks as though they glued the pieces back together. The blobs and globs are in the most visible location as you approach the exterior entrance.
Although I am somewhat embarrassed that I fell for the fancy presentation in the Home Pro showroom, I hope to prevent someone else feeling as frustrated as I have felt. In the past four years, we have had a number of home improvements done, but I have never experienced a situation like this. I guess we were very lucky with our previous jobs. The business owners were honest and reliable. They did what they said, and they did it when they said they would. Here's what I learned from my mistake. Just because you spend a lot of money does not insure you'll get high quality in return. Amen.
"HomePro completes over 700 jobs a year. We have hundreds of positive testimonies from satisfied customer's. HomePro returned to the home and as we understood at final inspection, the customer's issues have been resolved"
"HomePro will never take advantage of anyone. When our customer's have a complaint we're here to fix it. All you need to do is call"
"Thank you!"
They called us a few days prior to doing the work to let us know when they would be there. They came when they said & got the work done with one visit. They did a good job & cleaned up after themselves. They made sure the outside trim around the door looked nice also.
I love the door. I felt their price was a little high, but the whole process was worry free & would use them again..

"We work very hard to make sure our customer's are 100% satisfied. We will continue to provide excellent customer service. We will always do our best to resolve any issues as we did here"

Took forever for the teams to get started. Had to call several times. Once they finally started, the deck and siding crew did good work. The deck crew was very professional and cleaned up every day. Their workmanship seems to be very good.
The siding crew was very fast and worked hard each day. They also tidied up each day and cleared their debris at the end of the job.
They were very friendly and seemed to want to do a good job.
The concrete crew was another story. They were undependable each day. Started, then left to return only when called to inquire about their whereabouts. Also, the crew itself changed from day to day. They did not clean up each day. Left the yard a mess. They were very rude at one point. Did a terrible job on the sidewalk the first time (uneven and slanted). Very unhappy to have to redo it. The finished project is not good, or what was expected, but was running out of time so accepted it.
Management seemed to be in a big hurry to get their money at the end of the job.
Later: There is constant noise from the siding moving. Have tried to get a statement about the R value of the siding for income tax purposes, but to no avail.
"We don't make up excuses but we never leave a customer unsatisfied. All you have to do is call and we'll keep on it until you're happy..."
They poured new concrete in the dead of winter. It has since cracked and shifted, and the swelling of the patio as it dried made the existing brick wall buckle and crack. It is not fixable, and needs to be demolished now.
They began building the sun room addition by using yet another 3rd party, and even I, a layman, could tell it was not being framed correctly. There were huge gaps between roof and wall supports, inferior lumber was used, and nails were sticking out everywhere because they missed the beam with the nail gun. No matter how many times I complained or questioned the standard of work, they would not fix it.
Our fence, a black aluminium picket, was supposed to have 4x4 posts. They are 2x2. The whole fence rattles with the slightest breeze. The aluminium is so fragile that our dog (medium) can squeeze through by bowing out the pickets. The gate has no handle, and is impossible to open from the outside, requiring both hands to open it by reaching over the gate. If I had purchased the fencing materials at a home improvement store and had someone install it, it would have cost less than 1/10 what Home Pro charged us.
The metal they used for the soffit and fascia is ugly and looks like a cheap trailer house. The gutters are not level, and they pour water from every corner of the roof. The water problem we didn't know we had is now very obvious. The whole house is settling as a result.
Three years later we still have terrible problems, and cannot get the company to respond. The concrete cracked when the weather warmed, the existing brick wall was not supported when they poured the concrete, and burst it's seams. It must be removed now. The siding on the addition warped the first summer and looks absolutely hideous. The plastic windows came loose from their frames and let in bugs and dirt. The window frames do not open and close, presumably because of the aforementioned settling. The yard is a swamp because their "cleanup" involved scraping off our topsoil, and the underground drains, which they destroyed our french drain system to bury, fill with leaves and do not empty.
The addition itself was built so poorly that we had to get another contractor to correct it in order to be able to finish the interior of the addition. A huge section of the metal fence bent and is down. Home Pro won't even tell us the Brand, so that we can purchase a replacement section of fencing. These and many more problems (no city permits or inspections for one) have left us with an eyesore and a money pit. John at Home Pro will not return our calls or emails.
We trusted them because they ran television ads with satisfied customers singing praises. It never dawned on me that they would not even leave the Home Pro sign in the yard once the mess was apparent to passers-by. Two weeks turned into nearly a year, and still the job is 1/2 finished.
In our small town, we could have purchased an entire house for what we paid to have our nice one trashed.
I would warn even my worst enemy against using Home Pro of Joplin, MO. Don't believe their tv ads. They are NOT honest, they don't do their own work, and they are VERY expensive. Add that to the non-existent customer service, and it's a perfect storm of nightmare proportions.
"It's difficult to hear accusations of dishonesty. HomePro is a fair and honest company. We're not cheap because when you hire us there are 11 in house employees and often multiple crews working on your project. If there's a problem we're here to resolve it all you have to do is call us"
"Thank you!"
"Even after a bad review we will always come back until your happy"
"When I was made aware of this post I made a personal visit to her home. After our conversation I believe everything is a-ok."
"In October of 2007 we did install this client's windows. In hindsight, having one window installed by a different contractor we should have stayed the course with what the other contractor did although it was not standard replacement window installation. We made every attempt with custom painted new shutters and including discounting the 500 dollar balance to meet the customer's expectations. I'm not sure that we've accomplished that. We will be here to service them if they have any issues in the future."
