"The team did great both waterproofing the exterior of our basement wall as well as regrading the exterior landscaping to assure better drainage away from the house. Billy and his team were punctual, always polite, and quick to respond. They took extra care to make sure nearby landscaping stayed in tact - something small that made a big difference once all was said and done. They were transparent if any issues arose and took care of things quickly. Very happy with the whole experience."

"We just had a new deck built earlier the fall. We ran into Al at the fall Johnson County Home & Remodel show. The deck construction had left the area under our deck a pile of dirt and it rained the night before. We have two mid-sized dogs and they came in after their morning "constitutional" covered in mud. I called Al and left a message, identifying myself and telling him we'd like to put in a ceiling, and asked if he could do it that afternoon (Thursday). He told me he was in Olathe and had several jobs, but was kind of waiting on them to progress, so he could come out in about an hour and look the job over. He was there right on time and the next morning he was on the job with equipment and supplies in hand. They completely covered the underside of our 14'x22' deck and had it done by Monday. Al was very professional, accommodated some last minute things I wanted to do (run some wiring for a ceiling fan and lights) and didn't change extra for some additional work he had to do as a result. We are very pleased with the work done by Dry Deck Ceilings and would be more than happy to recommend them to others needing the same service."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

All plaster walls will crack over time due to normal house settling and expansion and contraction from temperature and moisture changes. Small, thin hairline cracks are generally not serious and are mostly a cosmetic issue. However, larger or more significant cracks can indicate structural problems.

Here's how to tell the difference:

  • Cosmetic Cracks: Cracks that are 0.5 cm (0.2 inches) or thinner are typically cosmetic.

  • Structural Cracks: Cracks wider than 0.5 cm, excessive or deep cracks, multiple cracks in the same area, or cracks that span around corners can signify a structural or foundation issue. Cracks along the joints where walls meet the ceiling also warrant attention.

For cracks wider than 0.5 cm, structural repair is needed. If a crack is 2.5 cm (1 inch) or wider, or if you notice any signs of a structural problem, it is best to contact a plaster repair professional to assess the damage.

The best tool for skim coating drywall is a skim coating blade, which can smooth out joint compound in wide stretches. While you could use a smaller drywall knife for skim coating, the smaller size means it’ll take longer to smooth out each section. Instead, consider investing in a skim coating blade for the quickest application.

Yes, it is possible to rewire a house without removing the drywall, but this doesn’t work in all homes. You can pull out old wires and insert new ones if you have access to the wiring system via the ceiling or through a crawl space. Some pros can also use a magnetic kit to fish the old wire out of the wall through a hole cavity and install the new wires. Just keep in mind that doing this is less stable than removing drywall, as you won’t be able to staple the wires into the framing.

If your premixed drywall mud is dried out or has begun to set in the bucket, you may be able to revive it by adding warm water and stirring. However, the first and most important step is to scrape off any hard, dried bits of drywall that may have accumulated toward the top of the container and throw them away because they will not easily reconstitute back into the drywall mud mix.

Yes, even if you’re being careful, removing tile can damage your drywall to some degree. However, you can minimize the damage done to it by eliminating a majority of the grout and taking your time prying each tile off. Also, it's worth noting that you might have more drywall damages to deal with if your tile is set into the mortar.
