"This was the 2nd time, years apart, Nation's has worked at my house. Richard, the owner, was quick to respond & make an appointment to see the requested work. The cost was very reasonable & on target with my budget. Areas of work: drywall 3'x4' hole in bdrm from plumbing repair; same in upstairs btrm; drywall & repair above patio doors; repair/redo btrm ceiling & added swirl; drywall/patch basemt stairwell walls. All finished work is flawless with new & old blending well. Both plaster walls & drywall walls were involved in work. With all work required, it was done quickly(3 days), All paste, dry time & sanding was contained. Once an area was finished, Joe completely cleaned it. Nation's Drywall will do amazing work for you as they did for me - give 'em a call!"

Customers say: True professional

"First Eric made sure the problem was solved (I had vents installed in the roof), then they removed all the damp plaster and Eric came back numerous time to make sure the walls were dry enough to continue. His crew came back and did a great job and cleaned up all the mess. His office staff always answers the phone and relays questions and we are now ready to paint!"

"Matt arrived on time and was efficient at replacing floor tiles. Do you think customer service is gone, well so did we until Matt Hemingway came to replace three broken tiles. He finished in 90 minutes and that included going back to hardware store for a different color grout because he didn't like the way it looked. When done you could not tell the floor had been fixed. Excellent job. Highly recommend."

Plaster Repair questions, answered by experts

Plaster is a pretty tough surface, but it can still sustain damage from things like bumping against it, water issues, dampness, extreme humidity changes, and plain old age. Most plaster walls last hundreds of years and will only be taken down to the base layer when major repairs are required. Being cautious around the wall, not placing furniture against it, and ensuring stable humidity are all great ways to reduce possible damage.

Look for flaking paint or air bubbles that burst and then flake away. Paint will begin to flake after being exposed to minimal moisture or water, so it’s a good indicator of any water damage. If you notice your paint starting to flake, feel the plaster underneath to see if it is soft or damp.

The short answer is yes, a sagging plaster ceiling is dangerous. Sagging plaster on a wall is something you should fix immediately, but it isn’t a major concern. If the same type of sagging occurs on a ceiling, however, you could be in danger of your ceiling falling in large chunks. When plaster sags, it loses its strength and ability to hold itself up. The bonds that hold it together are strong, though, so if a sagging area falls, it will take large pieces down with it.

Only use spackle on plaster walls when the imperfection is small. It’s best used for nail holes or small dings in the plaster. Spackle dries quickly, allowing you to continue the repair process shortly after using it. Plaster can be tricky to repair, though, so if you run into issues, call a pro so that you don’t risk further damage.

You can plaster over regular drywall, but it's essential to prepare the surface properly. Before plastering, the drywall should be clean, free of dust, and any loose or peeling paint should be removed. Applying a primer specifically designed for plastering can improve adhesion. Some professionals recommend applying a base coat of plaster or joint compound to create a better surface for the plaster to adhere to. Proper preparation ensures a smooth and durable plaster finish over regular drywall.
