"Todd is very thorough. His ability to patch cracks in the drywall is superb. The project took a few days longer than I would have liked, but everything was done very well. I had him paint my ceilings, repair cracks, remove paneling and replace it with drywall, install a laundry room cabinet, and some little electrical jobs. He did a great job."

"Greg did an excellent job for us. I wholeheartedly recommend him for any of your drywall installations or repairs. We had hung most of the drywall, because thatâ s what I can do. He came and taped and muddled the walls before we painted, and finished our ceilings as well. The finished product is great!!!"

"Peter did good work for me. I appreciated his skills. He filled in holes around a new window frame with a plaster wall and painted entire room including trim. No paint drops left on carpet or anything! He also braced up my cracked basement support beams as my house was built in the 40's . Overall he is a 5 star."

"Showed up on time to look at the job. Gave a price range & we set a date to do the work today. Again showed up even early, did the job in a timely manner. Did more than expected & charged the low end of his price range. Would highly recommend him. A very personable young man!!"

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Poured concrete is often the cheapest material for a retaining wall, costing around $6 to $8 per square foot. Other budget-friendly options include vinyl and landscaping timbers, which range from $10 to $15 per square foot; landscaping timbers are particularly well-suited for DIY projects. Untreated timber and railroad ties are a step up in price, starting at $15 to $25 per square foot. Natural stones can also be a cost-effective choice if you can source them from your own property, but they can be expensive to purchase. High-end materials like steel are typically the most expensive but offer superior durability and aesthetics.

While vinyl is the least costly material for building a retaining wall, the most cost-effective method is to use wood or concrete blocks for a DIY retaining wall under 2 feet tall. Wood is inexpensive but lasts 20 years or more with care. Concrete can cost a little more but is stronger and will last longer with less maintenance.

Even if you think you know how to build a retaining wall theoretically, doing the actual work is a completely different story. There are lots of nuances in building retaining walls, and the slightest oversight can compromise their integrity. Therefore, we recommend you hire a pro to build, repair, or replace retaining walls.

DIY is possible for small projects. Professional installation ensures structural integrity and durability for larger walls.

Generally speaking, a retaining wall should be between 3 and 4 feet high, depending on variables such as the wall-building material, the purpose of the retaining wall, and more. If you want your retaining wall to be taller than 4 feet, check with your local building ordinance office for the maximum allotment. You may also need a special permit for retaining walls over 4 feet tall.
