"Communication and service were outstanding. We contacted Tony on short notice and asked for an out of state move the week between Christmas and New Year's. Tony was able to move things around and accommodate our schedule. Very professional and safe move. When we arrived at our destination, bad weather was in the forecast, so Tony expedited the move in, working into the evening, to finish it before the snow arrived. All in all, a very positive experience, and would strongly recommend."

"Even in the best of circumstances, moving is never fun. But Sunrise Moving will take away so much stress. I used them for the third time since February so I feel confident recommending. I had moved my mom into my house in late winter, then an assisted living facility in June when she needed 24/7 care, but then she sadly passed away. So while the stress of the last few months has been bad, Sunrise Moving at least made it much easier. They're punctual, hard-working, handled everything carefully w/out damage and all the movers were friendly and personable. If you're planning a move on a budget--Sunrise Moving will not disappoint!"

"Matt and his team knocked it out! Moved me from a 5BR house to a 5BR house in Kirkwood with NO damage. I’ve used other moving companies before, nobody moved as efficient and careful as First Place Moves did. I definitely recommend."

"They loaded all of my belongings for me, they got it done fast as well. They also unloaded at the new location, nothing was broken and they were very careful with all of my stuff. The team was very respectful as well. I will be hiring in the future if I ever need a move, and will be recommending to friends and family!"

Piano Moving questions, answered by experts

It is best to book a moving company two to three months before your move-out date. This provides enough time to compare rates, organize your belongings, and find an available crew for your desired day and time. While you might find movers with only one or two weeks' notice, some companies require booking up to 90 days in advance.

Planning ahead is especially important if you're moving during the busy summer season when demand is highest. Summer weekends, in particular, book up quickly. Securing your movers well in advance helps you avoid the stress and potential extra fees of last-minute arrangements.

It's typically best to hire movers who specialize in moving pianos because moving them often requires specific equipment and finesse, especially when it comes to grand pianos. However, some standard moving companies have experienced piano movers on their team, so it never hurts to call a company and ask about their piano moving expertise.

Moving insurance helps protect your belongings from damage or loss during the moving process. This policy can help reimburse you either part of or the total amount of your belongings that become damaged during the moving process. Moving insurance has three main options: full value protection, released value protection, and third-party or separate liability coverage. Speak with your moving company to determine what is covered under each policy and their cost to determine the best fit for your needs.

There are several effective ways to save money when hiring a moving company, primarily by handling some tasks yourself and being strategic with scheduling. Consider these methods:

  • Pack Your Own Belongings: You can significantly reduce costs by packing and protecting your items yourself. This includes wrapping delicate items, organizing them into boxes, and taping the boxes closed. You can use towels, clothes, and suitcases to pack belongings and protect breakables.

  • Provide Your Own Materials: Source free packing materials from friends and family, or reuse boxes and bubble wrap from a previous move.

  • Schedule Strategically: Book your move well in advance. Rates are often lower if you schedule your move on a weekday during the off-season, which typically runs from October through April.

  • Compare Quotes: Get moving quotes from at least three professional movers in your area. This allows you to compare services and choose the best value.

  • Ask for Discounts: Inquire if the moving company offers any special coupons or deals.

  • Purchase Moving Insurance: Protect your investment by purchasing moving insurance, especially for expensive or antique belongings.

  • Divide the Labor: While you can save money by packing, it's wise to leave the more dangerous and physically demanding work—like loading, unloading, and moving heavy furniture—to the professionals.

Gym equipment can be heavy, so it’s best to transport it using a furniture dolly. When dealing with treadmills, weight machines, or other bulky items, hiring professional movers or roping in some friends and renting a moving van makes sense.
