"On a Sunday evening I discovered I had a broken sewer pipe and sewage was coming into my lower level. Went to Home Advisor right away and started making calls. Of the 4 or 5 places I called, Honest Abe's returned my call and came out. (I have not heard from the others 9 days later!). They fixed the clog and stopped the flooding. Set up fans, including two of mine, to start drying things out and said they should run for 24 hours. Monday evening I got a call and now they said fans should run 48 hours. Tuesday came and went with no one here, Wednesday came and went with no one here. Thursday came and by late afternoon I called and fired them then called ServePro. Then got a call from Honest Abe's apologizing for the mess up saying they could be here first thing on Friday morning which I declined. ServePro showed up on time and had the clean up, including cutting out walls, done by around 3. Set up industrial fans and dehumidifiers and said they would be back Saturday to check. And they came back. They also said that because nothing had been done for 4 days the damage was much worse than it would have been because the wet trim had not been removed so the walls just kept sucking up the moisture. I ended up having to have almost 2 feet of wall cut out from the floor up in multiple areas. Honest Abe's also gave me an estimate of the cost of repair for the pipe that broke. It included bringing in equipment and digging up the pipe. The estimate I believe was somewhere between 5 and 6 thousand for the outside work. ServePro put me in touch with Virtual Plumbing. They came out on Monday, fixed the break in less than 1 1/2 hours and charged 180.00 for everything. As of today, 9 days later, my mess is cleaned up and sanitized, the plumbing is fixed, the contractor to put the walls back was here today to get measurements to get started putting back all the walls and trimming and Honest Abe's has still not come back to pick up their fans. I hate to think what my bill from them is going to be after learning the things I have learned from the other companies. I was apparently going to be gouged and have work done that was not needed in order to jack up the cost. That being said, I will give Honest Abe's credit, and my gratitude, for coming to help me in an emergency. They were the only ones to show up and they cleared the clog so I could live normally in my home. After that though, they unfortunately dropped the ball big time and for that reason I really can't recommend them . It was very hard for me to do the star rating because they did help but then caused more damage by not coming back. I learned that if there is another emergency, I should keep ServePro in mind because if they can't fix it, they know a reliable contractor that can. And their group of contractors show up, do the job and charge a reasonable fee."

"I was in process of moving from one house to another. Things are being crazy and on top of that, I found out that my toilet bowl at the new place does not work. So just like many people will do, I scramble to look for a plumber. Looking for a plumber like finding a good mechanic. I am always worry paying too much and not sure if the technician who come out is experience to fix the problem. So I check the Angie’s list and looking for a good review plumber. While I am searching, I saw a listing that catches my eyes. The slogan for AAA Performance Plumbing is “Hire the little guys!”. I then check out Yelp and Google reviews for the company and I see nothing but good review for the business. I always prefer to use the local small business for the community so I decided to give it a try and purchase one of the deals from Angie’s List. I got a call from Jacob on the same day I purchased the deal. Jacob is very friendly and accommodating. I explain to him the symptoms about the problem and he offer suggestions on how I can reduce the repair cost. Yes, he gave me suggestion to pay him less for his work. :-) Two days later, Jacob showed up at my house for the appointment. He removed the toilet bowl and we immediately notice some tree root problem in the sewer line. He checks out the issue and pulled out two feet long of root from the pipe (picture). I lived in the older neighborhood and there are lots of tree around. He then suggest to run a rooter in the sewer line to make sure we clear out any additional root at the deeper section of the pipe for additional cost. He never pressure for the additional job and give me total decision on the additional preventive maintenance job. Jacob explained to me on all the work he did and offer me great price (which always a plus). Just to sum it up. I use other big plumbing companies before but I would say I will hire Jacob anytime if I have to pay someone to work on any plumbing issue in my house. If anyone ask me about hire a plumber, I would refer them “Hire the little guys!”."

"Technician, Chris, was AWESOME!!!!! He was tied up in traffic and called to let me know. How much I appreciated that! He took apart the gas line in the fire pit and did some trouble shooting. Identified the cause as the log starter device. We discussed how to fix it - need a stone mason to expose the main gas line, then have Jamison return to fix it. Chris has another great idea how to use it if the masonry work would be too expensive. When I asked if he had any ideas, he suggested transforming the pit into a cool tabletop, which would complement the inline gas grill on one side and another fire pit on the other. GREAT company! GREAT employee, Chris! Thankyou very much! We're going to have the masonry done and call Jamison to make this operational.

Repair Sewer Line questions, answered by experts

Schedule regular inspections, fix minor issues promptly, and ensure proper drainage.

Sewer gas in any location can cause eye and respiratory irritation if you’re exposed at low levels, or more severe symptoms if you’re exposed at high levels—but fortunately, the fresh air outside means it’s less likely to affect your physical health. However, sewer smells outside can still indicate significant plumbing problems that will need to be dealt with, such as a potentially damaged sewer line or roof vent pipe.

Unlike regular cleanings, snaking your sewer line should be done as needed. There’s no reason to snake your sewer line if you don’t have any noticeable issues, like slow drainage or plugged drains. You can add it to your regular sewer cleaning checklist as a prevention method (on the same 18- to 22-month schedule), but it’s not always necessary.

Costs vary by severity and access requirements. Typical pricing ranges from $100 to $350, increasing with complexity or for emergency services.

Most commercial liquid drain cleaners work in 15 to 30 minutes. Consult the label on the bottle for additional instructions or time suggestions to prevent damage to your drainpipes. Alternative solutions such as baking soda, salt, white vinegar, and/or boiling water can take longer since they are less harsh than liquid drain cleaners.
