Small jobs welcome

"I used Scope Environmental recently to test floor tile and the underlying mastic to determine if either contained asbestos. I selected Scope because Jeff was very responsive, professional, independent of the abatement companies and his price was competitive. Jeff suggested testing both the tiles and mastic. The tiles tested positive for asbestos but the mastic contained no asbestos. As a result, I saved considerable expense by abating the tiles only and not the mastic so I also used Scope again for the post abatement air testing rather than the abatement company. I would hire Scope again for material and air testing for asbestos, mold or any other potentially toxic materials."

"I was happy that the company included surface and air testing in their basic services. Moreover, when the technician came to my home, he was incredibly efficient and clear. He surveyed the area and took samples in 20 minutes. Then, he explained the process for mold remediation in great detail. He was courteous and thorough."

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

Window sill mold can be harmful, but the severity depends on the type. Common household molds like Cladosporium or Aspergillus can trigger allergies, respiratory issues, or worsen asthma symptoms. However, black mold (Stachybotrys) can produce mycotoxins that can harm your health. Even less toxic molds should be addressed promptly to prevent health risks and property damage.

Yes, professional testing identifies mold presence and type, guiding effective remediation plans that mitigate health risks. By ensuring thorough removal and preventing recurrence, professionals help maintain indoor air quality and reduce potential health hazards.

Inhaling smoke from burnt food can be harmful to your health. Smoke and strong odors released when food burns can cause respiratory distress, especially for people with health conditions like asthma or for pregnant people. Even for those without such sensitivities, burnt food smoke can cause lung inflammation and irritation when inhaled.

Both wood-burning stoves and fireplaces can emit smoke and other combustion gases that are harmful to human health. According to the American Lung Association, wood smoke can lead to coughing and wheezing as well as long-term health impacts like increased risks for heart attacks and stroke.

Newer models meet the modern efficiency standards set in 2020 by the Environmental Protection Agency for cleaner burning, more efficient wood stoves. Regular maintenance can also minimize smoke.

Mold can begin to grow in as little as 12 to 24 hours, especially if the room is warm, so drying the area is the first thing you should do after water damage. Because mold and mildew can cause a range of health issues, make sure you clean up any water damage as soon as possible and run blower fans and dehumidifiers for 24 to 72 hours to dry out the room and reduce the risk of mold growth.
