"From start to finish the guys from J & D Forestry were great to work with. I first called them asking them to give me a quote for some land clearing for a future shed I was going to build. Devin came out same day and provided me with a more than reasonable quote. I moved forward right then and there. The crew showed up within the next couple of days to knock out the job. We don’t recommend DIY tree trimming for a few different reasons. First, the tools required to trim a tree can be costly, up to $1,100 or more, for the ladders and specialized saws needed. 

Safety is another concern, especially when working with more mature trees. As a guideline, you should only DIY tree trimming when branches are less than two inches in diameter. Any more, and the safety risk becomes too high, which could lead to catastrophe. For this job, it’s safest to let a tree-trimming professional assess the work needed.

Before you cut down a dead palm tree, try to revive it using the methods listed above. However, there are instances when it makes sense to remove a dead palm tree, including:

  • The heavily infected tree will infect nearby trees, bushes, and plants.

  • The palm’s roots are overtaking your yard, foundation, and sidewalk and causing structural damage.

  • The tree is unstable and a hazard to your property, your neighbor’s property, and pedestrians.

Not every arborist climbs trees, but most will do so if that’s the best method for assessing or treating a tree. Arborists have a variety of tree climbing gear and safety equipment to choose from when climbing trees.
