"JD provided me a quote last year and I decided to put off the repairs until now.  Upon calling JD he actually remembered my house from 10 months prior and was very willing to work with us.  Over the course of about 2 weeks I think I emailed JD 15 times with questions and changes to what was supposed to be a simple job.  JD answered every email quickly and professionally even though I'm sure I was a high maintenance customer in that way.   When JD and his crew arrived they got right to work and were very good about answering still more questions and showing me what was wrong and what they were going to do to fix it.  When it was apparent that the repair would require some extra material (OSB behind the cedar) JD had it on the truck and put it up without delay.  Wood Rot Solutions' workmanship is the best I've seen.  JD and crew actually custom cut and milled the pieces to use on my windows so that they were pitched away from the house but still looked aesthetically correct and pleasing.  They use the highest quality materials and craftsmen which ensure that the repairs will be correct, complete, and long lasting.  I'll never need to call anyone else for wood rot repairs as JD and his team are simply the BEST!

"I hired them to do my deck and they did a great job. I tried to hire them for two other jobs but they gave me the run around about the estimate. They said they would send somebody out and never did, multiple times. I never could schedule with them, so I let go. I won't call them again."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

You do not have to dig footers for a deck as long as it meets local code and holds up to weather in your area. If you live somewhere that experiences high winds and earthquakes, you may need to dig for your deck posts. Deck blocks, post anchors with base plates, and helical pile systems are the three no-dig deck post options you can choose from if local code permits.

Yes, it is generally safe to have a fire pit on a deck, but you must adhere to building codes and take several safety precautions. For both built-in and freestanding models, you must use a heat-resistant barrier, such as a fire pit pad or heat shield, between the pit and the deck. Additionally, consider the weight of the fire pit and ensure your deck can structurally support it, reinforcing it if necessary. The fire pit must also be positioned a safe distance from your house, particularly from materials like vinyl siding, to prevent heat damage.

That depends on the condition of your deck. An older deck that looks drab, worn, or has multiple damaged boards might be worth replacing before selling. However, if your deck is in good condition, you can simply clean, repaint, or stain it.

To flatten a cupped deck board, start by ensuring it’s dry. Then, try flipping the board over so the cupped side faces down and reattach it. If that’s not possible, you can use screws to pull it tighter to the joists or plane the edges slightly to reduce the cup. It’s best to replace severely cupped boards.

Two coats of stain are ideal for the best protection and aesthetic appeal. However, if your decking is made of particularly dense hardwood, you may only need one coat. If you want an intense color, two coats are ideal.
