Trick question: There is no difference between an AC and a furnace blower motor. Whether you have central air and heat or just one of these, the same blower motor carries hot and cold air throughout the ductwork in your home. AC evaporator coils should be cleaned at least once per year to keep your unit in good condition. For optimal performance, consider cleaning them twice a year—once before and once after the main cooling season. Don’t run your AC with a wet filter. It can cause your AC to work too hard, which will run up your utility bill and cause extra wear and tear on the system. The average life span of an HVAC system is 15 to 20 years. Even if your old air conditioner is still functional, it isn't as energy-efficient as a newer system (especially one with an Energy Star designation). Older HVAC systems aren't as efficient, and the 10-year mark is when you should start making full system replacement plans. Twenty years in, that plan should be well underway rather than waiting for the unit to die.
