Customers say: True professional

"Evan is a class act. He takes an old fashioned approach to customer service and exhibits a dedicated work ethic. Evan listened to my plans and explained how he would execute the project. His price was reasonable and we sealed the deal with a handshake. There was no delay as Evan and his team went to work and completed my patio and walkway within the estimated time, including an altercation I requested mid-way through. I was so pleased with the work that I asked Evan to purchase more brick and extend the walkway the length of the property. I would not only recommend All Phases Masonry, I am looking for additional projects myself."

"Jonathan was initially contacted to help us with an erosion issue which we thought would require a retaining wall (the wall was recommended by another landscaper). He assessed the situation and let us know the wall was not required and recommended a much simpler solution. He saved us thousands and so we could move on to another project we were wanting - a patio. His team did the work so quickly and did a beautiful job. I will definitely use his services again."

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

Driveways should be sloped with a minimum 2% slope—anything lower will cause precipitation and runoff to collect. A 2% slope is the equivalent of a 2-foot rise over 100 feet. One quick way to check the integrity of your driveway’s slope: no more than four inches of water should collect on the surface longer than 15 minutes after rain.

Chip seal layers gravel and a liquid bitumen one at a time on-site, while asphalt directly pours a pre-combined mixture. Asphalt must be sealed, but it will last up to four times as long as chip seal driveways. Aesthetically, chip seal has a natural, rustic look compared to the traditional asphalt slab.

Outdoor kitchens get wet and are sometimes next to pools. To avoid accidents, go with a non-slip material like concrete, brick, or rubber. Avoid materials like ceramic and porcelain, as they are known to be quite slippery. Wood and composite flooring can be slippery if untreated, so make sure to stain or finish these materials.

The dimensions of a driveway apron vary based on local building codes, the width of your driveway, and the distance between the driveway and the road. On average, aprons range from 12 to 24 feet wide and 8 to 18 feet long. Typically, the end of the apron connected to the driveway matches its width—such as 10 to 12 feet for a single-car driveway—while the end at the street flares out to allow cars to turn in and out more easily. In some areas, you may not be responsible for the portion of the apron that extends beyond the sidewalk, but this depends on local laws.

Decomposed granite and caliche can both harden into a solid surface using a plate compactor. However, due to decomposed granite’s fine particles, it’s not suitable for driveway surfaces. Some homeowners use pea gravel mixed with a gravel-binding resin to bind the loose stones and create a solid surface that won’t shift like loose gravel.
