"Both Chris DeHart and his team were professional to the highest degree. They went above and beyond in every aspect of the job. I could not be more impressed or satisfied with their work. They transformed my attic! My only regret is that I did not take any "before" pictures, but I can assure you the difference is night and day. I'm looking forward to the energy savings from my insulated attic. I recommend them highly. If you are considering sealing and insulating your attic, you should do it and you should get Chris and his team to do it for you!"

"My experience was great. Steve kept communications open during a period of inclement weather. When the weather cleared Steve and one of his crew came to access the job and determined that they could do the job right then, so they got to work and installed the gutter with the highest level of professionalism and skill. I will recommend Blue Seamless Gutters to anyone without reservations."

"My family and I have been living in an RV for over a year now, due to hurricane Florence. It has been a nightmare dealing with shady, lazy and difficult tradesmen but doing business with Mitch has been the easiest thing in this whole process. I called him on a Friday to insulate my entire home and he was completely done by the following Tuesday, before lunch time. He s extremely friendly and an excellent communicator. He kept me in the loop the entire time and showed up when he said he was going to. He does quick work but he is very proficient and he actually cleaned up after himself, which seems to be completely unheard of. We called around to multiple businesses for spray insulation and Mitch is by far the BEST price you will find out there. He even gave me a really good discount because I think he s just a nice guy. I highly recommend Mitch. He will make your life easier in regards to upgrading your home."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Experts use advanced techniques and tools to assess existing insulation levels and identify gaps. They implement strategic placement of new insulation to ensure complete coverage, optimizing thermal resistance and energy efficiency.

These two types of foams are similar chemically, but they are applied in a much different way and each has its own pros and cons. Spray foam can only be used if the area where you will be installing the installation is wide open and easy to access. Injection foam should be used where it's cost-prohibitive to remove the walls that are placed over the insulation. Spray foam is a much less expensive process and requires less expertise.

Because of the moisture concern, open-cell foam requires a vapor barrier. The barrier protects against high humidity and moisture exposure in rooms such as basements, bathrooms, or exterior walls. It wouldn't be necessary in dry interior spaces.

Insulation can be made of cellulose, fiberglass, polyurethane, polystyrene, or mineral wool. Radiant barriers are often made of aluminum or other similarly reflective materials, but they will need to be paired with something else because they don’t provide heating benefits. Cellulose is among the most eco-friendly options and may be recycled when it’s past its shelf-life, whereas polyurethane and polystyrene both emit harmful compounds and will need to be handled with care during installation.

You do not always need to remove old insulation before adding new. If the existing insulation is in good condition—not wet, physically damaged, moldy, or infested with pests—you can add new insulation directly on top of it for a compounding effect. You can also mix different types, such as adding blown-in insulation around existing fiberglass batts.

However, removal is recommended if the old insulation is compromised by water damage or pests. You should also remove it if you plan to install a different type of insulation, like switching from roll or batt insulation to spray foam. If the existing insulation is very old or damaged, you will likely get more benefit from removing it and starting fresh.
