"Seth was excellent at repairing a set of exterior french doors that had plagued us since we bought the house, installing weatherstripping and repairing a broken Andersen window sash. It's evident he takes pride in his work and I would absolutely work with him again!"

"I had a foundation issue that caused a window to shift out of its casing. Window World was happy enough to help me with just the one window that would need to be replaced. The sale, scheduling to the installation was done very quickly and everyone was all very polite and professional."

"The installers were courteous and professional. The only problem is one of the windows was delivered defective. The company quickly promised to repair it but so far has not even scheduled a repair. I don't mind if its weeks/months out, but I do want to be on the schedule. Otherwise it seems like once they had our money, they stopped caring."

Small jobs welcome

"The quality of the work was excellent. This involved two projects: adjusting several doors so they opened and closed properly again and a bigger project of replacing the wood hand railings to the entrance of my home. The technician was outstanding. I was able to review each door that needed to be adjusted and discuss the hand railings prior to the work being done and was very happy with the result. Both projects turned out great!"

Window Door Contractors questions, answered by experts

Options include fiberglass, aluminum, and pet-resistant screens to suit different needs.

To ensure the longevity and smooth functioning of new windows, regular maintenance is essential. This includes cleaning the glass and frames, inspecting seals for leaks or damage, and reapplying caulking as needed. It is also important to lubricate all moving parts and operating mechanisms to ensure they continue to operate smoothly.

Pet-resistant, vinyl-coated polyester is one of the strongest window screen materials available, with some manufacturers touting a 7x increase in strength compared to standard fiberglass screens. Stainless steel security screens are also extremely strong, but they’re not suitable for coastal areas due to the risk of corrosion from salty sea air. If sea air isn’t a concern, stainless steel is extremely tough.

It is generally recommended to remove window screens for the winter, especially in climates with heavy snow, freezing rain, or frigid temperatures. Removing them helps prevent damage to the screen mesh and frames that can be caused by ice and moisture buildup between the screen and the window. Taking out the screens also allows more natural light and warmth into your home during shorter winter days and makes it easier to clean your windows thoroughly. In warmer climates where harsh weather is not a concern, the decision is more about personal preference; some homeowners prefer the clearer view, while others leave them in for convenience.

Adding a window to a brick house costs $3,100 to $10,575. Because you’ll need to make changes to the structure of the home, the cost will include obtaining permits and hiring the best pros for this complex job. Larger windows will cost more to install, and the cost can vary based on the window frame material you choose.
