"Michael came out to do an inspection on our chimney before we went to use it. I am so glad he did. He found that there had been a fire in the chimney flu and it could have been a major problem had we gone to use it before getting it inspected. He was very helpful to answer all our questions and helped us tremendously. Great job."

"Rene was easy to get a hold of via text message and his team were able to work on our wall a day early. They were quick and very left the site very clean. They went above and beyond with actually fixing the and cleaning a section of wall that of wall that was not part of the bid, but was something they noticed needed to be done. I would highly recommend Rene and A&D Masonry"

"Tomas and Max did a great job. The over all cost for labor and supplies was very reasonable. Tomas had excellent communication during the whole process. Even checked with me early on during their build to make sure it was looking the way I wanted. Would absolutely hire them again for my next project."

While your forced heating system runs, it can pick up dirt, dust, hair, and other particles from inside your house. Changing your furnace filters regularly is key to preventing this debris from getting stuck in your ducts and swirling around your home. With some types of furnaces, there’s also the potential for carbon monoxide leaks. However, staying up-to-date with your HVAC inspections and installing carbon monoxide sensors can help mitigate this risk.

Whether or not your attic ladder needs to be fire-rated depends on your local building codes, so it’s best to check with your municipal office. However, if your ceiling meets a fire requirement, your attic ladder should as well. There are benefits of opting for a fire-rated ladder. For one, thanks to their fire-resistant material, they'll help protect your home from fire spreading from your attic, if one should break out.

While a hot fire can help heat up and loosen tar within your chimney, making it a recommended step before using a creosote log, it will not burn off significant existing buildup on its own. Attempting to remove built-up creosote with a hot fire is dangerous and can cause a chimney fire. For safe and effective removal of caked-on creosote, the best approach is to hire a professional chimney sweep.

Yes, fire extinguishers eventually expire. However, the good news is that a properly stored fire extinguisher can last a decade or longer. They don’t have an expiration date on the canister, but you can check the manufacturing date on the “UL” nameplate near the classification information. Maintenance will also give your fire extinguisher longevity. Check the gauge at the top of the extinguisher every month. You'll want to make sure the gauge needle is in the green section, and if a hose or nozzle has been used or damaged, you need to replace it.

There are a few things you can look out for to ensure your chimney is safe to use. Check for the following issues:

  • Cracks or missing pieces in the masonry of the chimney

  • Creosote buildup in the chimney, which is a black, tar-like substance
