"Charles did an excellent job in replacing my deteriorating chimney. Not only did he promptly return my call, he came by the same day to assess the problem. He was thorough and professional. He scheduled the work quickly and did a fantastic job. I will be recommending him to all my friends who need Tuckpointing or masonry services. Great job, Charles! Thank you."

"Martinez came out to estimate the work, listened to my concerns, explained exactly how the work would be done and, when the promised date arrived, showed up on time and delivered a great outcome. The newly installed brick and mortar blends seamlessly with that which has been there more than 20 years."

"Vargas tuckpointed my entire house and inside and outside of my garage. Approximately 4,000 plus square feet of tuckpointing. They used a dark black color mortar as required for my historical neighborhood. The work was done in a workmanlike manner, and I am happy with the result. Vargas was one of the two lowest bidders for the work out of 5 bids I received."

"Last month I posted a review after an unsatisfactory experience with work performed by KCB on a property our nonprofit organization is rehabbing for veterans in East St. Louis, IL. After communicating with Nicole at KCB she assured me that the issues would be resolved. Edwin returned to the worksite and corrected all the issues I pointed out. KCB sincerely apologized for the delay and mentioned that would have come sooner, but they had been extremely busy with jobs in the area. Although the experience got off to a rocky start, I must say that KCB stepped up and provided top notch professionalism in rectifying the matter to our satisfaction. The craftmanship & attention to detail displayed by KCB upon returning to resolve the issues is clearly the reason why I contacted them initially. I would recommend KCB to anyone seeking masonry & tuckpointing on a job of this size."

"Removed brick veneer from one section of our house and installed in another area. They installed stone top caps on a brick half wall across the entire front of our house and white washed brick. They also repaired our brick chimney and brick HVAC exhaust stack."

"The representative from Quacker's arrived on time and took a careful look at the crack, and pointed out that we could fix it (since it was a floor crack) much cheaper than the $199 price. He gave us detailed directions on how we could do it ourselves and offered a full refund. I did an adequate job myself and saved about $190! Their honesty and help was much appreciated...

"The top of our chimney was in need of repair. Romans Tuckpointing completed the repairs in less than half a day. They matched the brick up beautifully, and the chimney looks fantastic. Luis was very professional and personable when explaining the work needed. Will definitely use them again if needed, and highly recommend them."

"The owner Mike and his team headed by James were terrific! We noticed a huge crack in our house and called out 4 different companies. Each had a different solution. We then called out a structural engineer to evaluate the situation. Atlas Foundation was proposing exactly what the engineer suggested. Their proposal was also more complete and even included putting our decorative patio back to it's original condition, When work was scheduled, the team was punctual, friendly, and respectful of our property. I hope we never have to have this type of work again, but if we do, I would definitely call Atlas Foundation."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Initially, brick staining is not cheaper than painting. However, while it has a higher up-front cost, it may be more cost-effective in the long run. Brick stain can last for 20 years or longer, compared to paint, which usually starts to peel away in three to five years.

The size of your pizza oven will determine the number of bricks necessary to build it. So the bigger your pizza oven, the more fire bricks you’ll need to purchase. Keep in mind that fire bricks cost about $3 each.

The material you use depends on how hard-wearing your steps need to be and what you want them to look like. The most common stone for exterior steps is bluestone. It’s hard-wearing and durable, and bluestone steps cost between $15 and $30 per linear foot. Limestone is also a popular option and is mid-range, costing $25 to $50 per linear foot. You should always consider the specific requirements of your project before ordering any materials.

Cobblestone is not a type of rock but a term for a mosaic or rock laid down as a surface. It used to be made from the closest available stone but now can be made from nearly any hard rock, as machining has made shaping the stone much easier and cheaper.

Painted exterior brick does not usually need sealing. Brick is a porous material, so you don’t want to apply a sealant that could trap moisture inside the bricks and cause erosion and structural damage. The risk of moisture-induced damage after sealing is higher in colder climates where trapped moisture can expand if it freezes. On the other hand, it makes sense to seal really old brick or kitchen backsplashes, where moisture from cooking can weaken the brick.
