"Overall, Rebath people are pleasant to work with. Brendan was a top notch craftsman, 'BJ' in office stayed in touch as work progressed. there were some problems with ordering product, receiving wrong product, miscommunication in scheduling, which delayed completion of job beyond our expectations. Grout and caulk are commonly used together, especially in bathrooms. Grout goes between the tiles and keeps them sturdy and in place on the walls or floor. Caulk goes in corners or where two different materials meet (like where the bathtub meets the tile) to create a waterproof seal. However, they are not interchangeable—you shouldn't use caulk to adhere tile and shouldn’t use mortar if you need a waterproof seal.

You can, in theory, tile your fireplace hearth with most tiles. However just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. For example, it’s much better to use unglazed tiles because glazed tiles are more resistant to cracking under extreme heat. Porcelain is more heat-resistant than ceramic, but you can still design the hearth as you like by putting the most heat-resistant tiles directly under the fire and, if it matches your style, add more decorative tiles further from the center of the fire. 

Silicone caulk shouldn’t be used in place of grout because each material serves its own purpose.
